The lodge dates back to the 1930s and it still maintains an air of classic elegance throughout. You are welcomed by a spacious entrance hall that comes complete with a grandfather clock. The warm and inviting sitting room has an open fire to curl up in front of and is open to the spacious round sun room that enjoys wonderful views over to the Isle of Skye and the Cuillin mountains. There are French doors that lead out to the garden and a pretty suntrap terrace area (with seating).
The well-equipped, stylish kitchen has a large electric Aga to cook up a storm on, as well as the option of an electric hob and oven. A central island provides plenty of extra worktop space and there is also a sunny breakfasting area and handy utility room. The rather grand formal dining room is a lovely place to gather together for convivial meals of an evening.
Upstairs, off the generous landing, are a double bedroom and two twin rooms, along with a shower room and bathroom. The bedrooms are all very attractively presented and some of them even have sea views to enjoy.
The lodge has an adjacent self-contained wing that has its own cosy sitting room and neat kitchen/dining room and upstairs a double bedroom, two single rooms and a shower room. This wing can be completely closed off from the main lodge for privacy.
The Lodge is set in garden grounds that extend to 18 acres in total with wonderful views out to sea that can be admired from the pretty summerhouse, set in an elevated position that makes a great vantage point. Outbuildings also house a games room with pool table and a useful drying room for coats and boots.
The pretty seaside village of Plockton (2.5 miles) is set in a sheltered bay on Loch Carron with lots of interesting little shops to explore, as well as a pub and general store.
A good choice of eateries are on offer with everything from fish and chips to excellent freshly caught seafood to tempt you. You can try a bit of sea fishing for yourself or maybe have a go at sea kayaking, with lessons available for beginners.
Take a relaxed stroll along the palm tree-lined harbour or simply sit and watch the yachts bobbing in the water. Otters are often seen on the shores and there are boat trips that run out for spotting the local common seals. In late July every year the village hosts the Plockton Regatta, a two week long sailing spectacle that draws in spectators from all over the world with its myriad of boats.
Carrying on past Plockton you can experience driving the famous Bealach Na Ba mountain pass to Applecross, part of the North Coast 500 route. The pass is one of the highest roads in Britain with steep gradients and hairpin bends that are not for the faint hearted. It takes about an hour and a half to reach Applecross and there is a scenic coastal road that makes a good alternative route back if one trip over the pass was enough for you!
The nearest place for supermarket shopping is Kyle of Lochalsh (4 miles) and from there the bridge crosses over to the Isle of Skye which has a whole host of different attractions. There is a lovely sandy beach at Lower Breakish and bikes can be hired from Broadford for sightseeing on two wheels. While on the island you could perhaps even climb the Cuillin mountain range that you have been admiring from the lodge.
There are several mountain biking trails nearby and the iconic Eilean Donan Castle (8.5 miles) is only a 15 minute drive away. The castle is one of Scotland’s most recognisable landmarks and is intriguing to walk around with an interesting visitor centre that details its history and also a coffee shop and gift shop.
