Overview

The road on which it stands is a quiet, dead end road and it has lovely views across the water, not to mention a ringside seat for the departure of the twice daily boat to the Hebrides.

This is a Thomas Telford House that was once an old manse and, as you would expect with such origins, is a solid, traditional Highland home providing warm and comfortable accommodation.

The principal sitting room is very welcoming with a range of inviting seating around the lovely open fire and a selection of books, games, etc. There is also the alternative of the family room, which is kept cosy by a multi-fuel stove. As both of these rooms have a TV it is an ideal setup if viewing tastes amongst guests vary.

The elegant dining room is formally and traditionally furnished with an electric flame-effect fire for extra warmth. The galley style kitchen is both well-equipped and practically arranged so that more than one person can work in there with ease. A double bedroom can be made available downstairs by request, which would make the accommodation very suitable for people with limited mobility. With no less than three shower rooms also on this level there is no lack of facilities either!

Upstairs are six further bedrooms, four doubles and two single rooms. They are all of a good size and are comfortable and well-furnished with their own wash basins. Two of the double rooms have king-size beds and in some of the old fireplaces have been retained as a pleasing feature. With a spacious, part-panelled upstairs bathroom and a separate WC, at Ornsay House just about all the bases have been very effectively covered with a configuration that is ideal for larger parties or two families holidaying together.

Outside there is an enclosed garden to the side and rear and private parking for up to 6 cars.

Map & Local

Ullapool, on the shores of Loch Broom, is an excellent centre for exploring the glorious scenery of Wester Ross, whilst still being close to local amenities.

Just to the north, on the Coigach, there is some of the most spectacular scenery in the whole of the UK, with wonderful opportunities for climbing and walking, loch and sea fishing and cycling. There is also a sandy beach at Achnahairdh.

Drive round to Achiltibuie, or take the 'wee mad road' to Lochinver - your camera will never be in its case! Three miles further to the north is the glorious beach at Achmelvich. From there, you can even continue to Durness and Cape Wrath, the north westernmost point of mainland Scotland. Or, to the south, there is Gairloch and the famous sub-tropical gardens at Poolewe. There are boat trips from the harbour to the Summer Isles and to see the marine life in the area.

Ullapool has hotels, shops, a leisure centre with pool and even a golf course, so there is not chance of visitors being bored, whatever the weather.

Please note: while we make every effort to be as accurate as possible, the actual position of the cottage indicated on the map above and the proximity of the amenities in the Local Info section cannot be guaranteed to be precise and should be used as a guide only.
