Knockenhooley Cottage is tucked away on the coast near the crofting township of Lower Breakish on the south east of the beautiful Isle of Skye. Set well back from the road down a private drive and in its own large, enclosed garden, this traditional stone built cottage is the perfect warm and homely base for exploring all that Skye has to offer.

Overview

Inside the charming sitting room is warm and inviting with comfortable seating and a wood-burning stove at its centre to keep it nice and cosy. It is the ideal place to relax after a long day spent exploring the island. The stylish kitchen is well-equipped, with a dining area and even a dishwasher so there is no need to argue over whose turn it is to do the dishes! There is also a handy utility room that neatly houses the laundry facilities.

The bright sun room has French doors out to the garden’s patio area, so you can open them and feel like you are ‘bringing the outdoors in’. The main bathroom is modern and spacious with both a bath and a separate large shower cubicle and there is also a useful additional shower room.

Upstairs are three double bedrooms, all of which are stylishly furnished with ornate metal bedframes and lovely views out over the surrounding countryside. The two main bedrooms are spacious and light with king-size beds and the other bedroom is smaller but equally as attractive and welcoming.

Outside there is plenty of parking on the gravelled area just by the door and there is a large grassed garden area to the rear with extensive sea views.

Map & Local

Just a short stroll from the cottage is The Red Skye restaurant that serves delicious, fresh local seafood. Also less than a mile from the cottage is Skyak Adventures that provides sea kayaking around the island with courses and tuition for people of all abilities and experience levels.

Broadford (3 miles) is the second largest settlement on the island and has restaurants, a supermarket, a PO, a petrol station and even a Serpentarium where you can see a variety of reptiles!

Exploring further up the island you can take the ferry from Sconser (17 miles) across to Skye’s satellite of Raasay. This peaceful and tranquil island has a rocky coastline and rolling countryside that just begs to be explored on foot or by bike.

The ‘capital’ of Skye, Portree (29 miles), has a large supermarket, as well as some small gift shops. At the centre of the town the picturesque harbour is lined with pretty brightly-painted houses and restaurants that serve the very freshest seafood. From here you can take a wildlife boat trip out to see seals, dolphins, sea eagles and even basking sharks.

To the north of the island walkers will love exploring the spectacular landscape of the Quiraing mountain range – be sure to take your camera to try and capture some of the breathtaking scenery. From Uig, also in the north, you can ‘island hop’ across to the outer Hebridean islands of Harris, Lewis and North and South Uist with their stunning sandy beaches that are warmed by the Gulf Stream.
