Glencoe - mountain grandeur, history, romance - so much is conjured up by the name alone. The village of the same name lies at the end of that spectacular, brooding valley, quietly situated off the main road, on the shores of Loch Leven. What a perfect spot for a holiday house, with the mountains all around, and the west coast just yards away!
Cathadh Fairge, - the name might be translated as Spindrift -, is a modern bungalow which stands in its own extensive gardens in a truly heavenly location at the end of the loch and on the edge of the village. So in addition to the spectacular scenery, you have the convenience of the village shop and cafes within walking distance. Can it get any better?!
The interior of the house is most comfortably furnished. There is a smart, modern kitchen, a spacious sitting room with open fire, three bedrooms and a bathroom with separate shower.
Hill walkers, climbers and ski-ers will find their objects of desire right on the doorstep. Plain idle tourists will find they are quite spoiled for choice of things to do and see. Here, you are almost equidistant between Oban and Fort William, both most popular tourist destinations. From the former, you can take boat trips to Mull, Iona and Staffa, and from the latter you can take boat trips on Loch Linnhe to view the basking seals, or take the steam train, The Jacobite, out to Mallaig, crossing the 'Hogwarts Viaduct' at historic Glenfinnan in the process. (Glencoe was also the site of Hagrid's Hut in the early Potter films, so Potter fans will feel they are on holy ground indeed.)
Golfers will find an attractive course just along the road at Ballachulish. There is riding about 12 miles away at Appin, where you can canter across the sands under the shadow of Castle Stalker. For those who like their climbing more organized, there is the Ice Factor 7 miles away at Kinlochleven, with the world's biggest indoor ice wall and instruction for all ages. For a sandy beach, the nearest is probably at Cuil Bay near Duror, about 8 miles away.
Bed linen, towels, oil-fired central heating and electricity are all INCLUDED in the rental. Sorry, pets are not accepted and smoking is not permitted within the cottage.
