A quiet road leads down the eastern shore of Loch Fyne from Strachur to Otter Ferry and Tighnabruaich.  It's a most scenic route, which rises high above the loch to give glorious views across to Minard and Carrick on the opposite shore, with the Knapdale Hills beyond.

And this is the view that greets you at Drimdarroch, a  most comfortable, modern, detached, whitewashed farm cottage which stands well off the road on a farm track.  Sunny, spacious, and double-glazed, Drimdarroch has been painstakingly furnished and equipped by its owners, with a bright kitchen diner, an excellent sitting room with large picture windows and open fire, three good bedrooms and bathroom.  There is ample parking to the side, and a large decked area to the front and rear.  The back garden is grassed with a seating area and a stream running through. so care may be required with young children. (Children will doubtless enjoy collecting eggs from the chickens and adore the two ponies who are usually grazing in the field in front of the cottage.)

Strachur (5m) has a shop/café and filling station not to mention the famous Creggans Inn.  For more serious shopping, the nearest place is Dunoon (22m), from where you can also catch the ferry to Gourock near Glasgow.  Ferry hopping is potentially  quite a pastime for guests at Drimdarroch - from Portavadie you can cross to Tarbert at the northern end of the Mull of Kintyre with the possibility in summer of sailing onward to Arran, while from Colintraive (19m) the crossing is to Bute and the resort of Rothesay.

Tighnabruaich (23m) is a mecca for sailors, and also has a golf course, as do Inveraray (24m) and Dunoon.  If in Dunoon you can visit the Benmore Botanic Gardens just outside the town on the Strachur road, while if heading for Inveraray (castle, jail museum) you will pass Ardkinglas Woodland Gardens at the head of Loch Fyne and the Loch Fyne Oyster Bar where you can stock up with all kinds of goodies.  You are also well placed to explore the Argyll Forest Park and Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park, the boundaries of both of which are within 6 miles of the cottage.

The Cowal peninsula is an area of outstanding natural beauty and home to an abundance of wildlife, on land, air and sea.  Indeed, it is a stronghold for the red squirrel and the majestic golden eagle, the national bird of Scotland. Loch Fyne supports large populations of the elusive Eurasian otter as well as colonies of grey and common seals.  Basking sharks, bottlenose dolphins and even minke whales are often seen off this coastline.

It goes without saying that there are plenty of places to walk, whether along the loch or in the surrounding hills.  Local licences are available for fishing in Loch Eck and the Cur and Ruel Rivers, and of course Loch Fyne itself.  All in all, Drimdarroch will provide the backdrop for a memorable holiday which can be as relaxing or as active as you wish.

Oil central heating, the first £10 of electricity and bed linen are INCLUDED and towels may be hired.  Well behaved pets are welcome by arrangement.  Sorry, no smoking within the cottage.  Wi-fi Broadband is available, subject to provider.

Thank you for a wonderful honeymoon. The cottage is fab.... clean, spacious and has everything you need. With a fantastic view like this there is no need to go too far. Although it rained most of the week it did not spoil it. All the locals are really friendly and we would love to come back to stay.

We have had a nice relaxing chilled out week here in the cottage. The ever-changing views out the window were a treat (including the deer). The food at Inver Cottage was amazing and everyone has been very friendly, Thanks for having us!

Humphries Party, Derbyshire 14/08/2010

Had a brilliant holiday here - the area is beautiful and this location is wonderful. Had lots of lovely walks in the forests. The Whistlefield Inn & Coylet are great stop-offs and Inver Cottage was really good, the Creggans was superb. Very friendly neighbours, including the horses - felt very homely here and relaxed.

Our first trip to Scotland. Felt like a dream world - heaven. Special thanks for this wonderful cottage, just in nature. I loved it here, thanks from the heart!

Moss Party, Somerset 18/09/2010

Thank you. The cottage is lovely and we loved the view. We did some wonderful loch walks around Lachlan Bay and lunch at Inver Cottage. Walks at Pucks Glen and lunch at Benmore Gardens. The beach at Ardentinny and Glenbranter waterfalls are awesome. A very restful holiday - even our 2 springers were walked out!

Norma and Richard, West Midlands 25/09/2010

We have enjoyed our week here - Drimdarroch cottage is comfortable and welcoming. A week is not long enough so we will be here again next year. Wish we could take the views home with us - my husband wants to move in. Many thanks for the welcome pack of wine and shortbread.

Laytham Party, Lancashire 09/10/2010

A beautiful setting and a lovely cottage. We have really enjoyed our week here. The weather has been kind and we have done lots of exploring, however the view out of the window takes some beating. Our 2 dogs loved it here, particularly their new friends out the front.

Smith party, Falkirk 09/07/2011

Thank you for providing us with such a comfortable place in which we were able to recharge our batteries. The views are stunning and we have enjoyed watching the scenes of the loch and mountains beyond change throughout the day. We and our dogs have had a lovely time.

Kuechler party, Germany 16/07/2011

We also say thanks for the nice possibility to stay here. It is hard to say goodbye, especially now that the sun is shining, the birds are twittering and the loch looks so inviting.

Porritt family, West Yorkshire 23/07/2011

Thank you for the use of your lovely cottage. The weather has been hot and sunny - we couldn't have hoped for more.

Powis party, London 30/07/2011

We have had a fantastic week here at Drimdarroch cottage. Our boys, 2 & 5, enjoyed looking for crabs and starfish and walking to the island. Our dog particularly enjoyed the walks to the waterfalls at Glenbranter. We all enjoyed this lovely cottage and the friendly neighbours. We have enjoyed investigating castles and the walk from Inver Cottage was great, especially with a cream tea at the end of it. We loved saying good-morning to the ponies and the "Scottish black slugs"! We recommend a boat trip from Tighnabruaich and a visit to Inveraray Jail. A great week, thank you.

Green party, Norfolk 18/06/2011

Sky, water, sea and hill - such is the beauty of Argyll. And the clean clean air which thrills both at night with the light on the water or in the morning breeze which colours a bright new day. Thank you for a lovely week. Although it was a bit dreich, the week finished on a high and allowed us to enjoy our favourite part of Scotland. We travelled all around Cowal & Bute, immersed in this tremendous part of the world. Particularly enjoyed the wildlife, swallows, the horses, cows and cat too. The cottage has everything we needed for a comfortable and relaxed stay, even the potholes became charming! It was a privilege to share this experience.

Bryson party, Edinburgh 16/04/2011

Had a fab week. The cottage and situation are just perfect. Views are stunning and would have loved to have stayed longer. Life here is so relaxing compared to the city. Loved driving to places like Oban, Loch Eck, Dunoon and around the local area. Thanks for being so helpful and welcoming. We hope to come again and will let all friends and family know about Drimdarroch Cottage. Thank you for providing such a great location for people to appreciate bonny Scotland.

Naomi (aged 6), Hull 28/05/2011

I have enjoyed being here. I love the ponies because they are really friendly and it was good to go for a walk and being lucky enough to see deer. I like the friendly cat and I would love to come back again.

Brammall party, Somerset 20/08/2011

Lovely part of the country, great walks and stunning scenery. The Creggans was particularly good for a meal and the hospitality fantastic, as was Inver Cottage. For us though, it was probably the people that we found so incredibly helpful and welcoming to this region.

M & P, Hampshire 04/09/2011

Great views and lovely meals nearby. We did a lot of driving to places we wanted to see but the landscape made the journeys most enjoyable. Great part of Scotland, even in the rain!

Vu party, Vietnam 23/12/2011

This is the place that I have dreamed of since I was a boy. I just want to say that the house is awesome, well equipped and the view is especially lovely. Thank you also to the neighbours, who were very helpful, even on Christmas Day. We will be back.
