From Gourock some 25 miles west of Glasgow, take one of the frequent car-ferries across the River Clyde to Dunoon (lots of hotels, shops, etc.) on The Cowal Peninsula and then drive 6 miles northwards - firstly along the west side of The Holy Loch (remember all those 'anti-US base' demonstrations?) and then up the east side of Loch Eck to arrive at Island Farmhouse in The Argyll Forest Park.

Stunningly situated and beautifully furnished, with a simple traditional appearance that belies the very high standard of equipment and comfort within, it stands in its own enclosed garden and grounds (furniture, BBQ) about 100 yards from the shore of Loch Eck and about 7 miles south of Strachur (famous Creggans Inn, garage, general store). The owners have 4,000 acres of Sporting Estate and in season can offer tenants shooting, stalking and a choice of river, loch or sea fishing.

There are a couple of good pub/restaurants within a 4 mile radius.  Visit, too, the Benmore Botanical Gardens, just 3 miles down the road, and stroll up Puck's Glen on the other side of the road, a truly magical experience of woodland and waterfall.  In the other direction, heading up to Loch Fyne, you can turn right at the top and twenty minutes will bring you to Loch Lomond.  Turn left,  and you will quickly reach the famous Smokery and Oyster Bar.  Another 8 miles will bring you to Inveraray, with its castle and fascinating jail, now a museum.  From there you can proceed right down the Mull of Kintyre, or, in the other direction, head up Loch Awe to Oban and the west coast.  There are golf courses at both Dunoon and Inveraray, and, of course, the Championship course on Loch Lomond is also easily accessible.

Heating is by oil-CH and open-fires.  Bed-linen and towels are INCLUDED. Pets are accepted but must be on a lead within the Estate. Smoking is not allowed within the house. PLEASE NOTE that Loch Eck Cottage lets from SUNDAY to SUNDAY, and a refundable householders deposit is payable on arrival.
