The crofting hamlet of Arivegaig is to be found at the end of a single track road across the moss, some three miles from Acharacle (shops, hotels) on the Ardnamurchan Peninsula in Western Scotland. This little township is scattered about the hills around Kentra Bay where you will also find the legendary Singing Sands and Ardtoe Beach.
This is truly an idyllic spot for a holiday and Kentra Cottage provides an excellent and homely base for it. It is an attractive, traditional, whitewashed, detached cottage which stands in its own enclosed garden (furniture) with flower beds and lawns. Inside, it has been carefully modernised and furnished, with a sitting room with multi-fuel stove, a dining kitchen, two bedrooms and bathroom.
Being so far from traffic, it is an ideal cottage for children and pets to play in safety. (The garden has a small drainage channel so a certain amount of care required with tinies.) There are excellent walks round the bay to the sands or in the hills behind. Yet it is not so very remote. An hour's drive will bring you to Fort William, where you can golf, shop, swim at the leisure centre or even climb Ben Nevis, Britain's highest mountain.
By heading north west, you can even more quickly be on the silver sands at Morar, playing golf on the fine links course at Traigh, or be in Mallaig, waiting for the ferry to take you across to Skye for the day.
To the southwest, you can make for Ardnamurchan Point, the westernmost point of mainland Britain, with its Stevenson Lighthouse. There is another lovely beach there at Sanna Bay. On the way, you will pass through Kilchoan, from where in summer, you can catch the car ferry across to Tobermory on Mull.
Bed linen and the first £15 of oil central heating are INCLUDED. Please note, towels are not available. Up to two well-behaved pets are welcome by arrangement. Smoking is not permitted in the cottage.
