Braleckan, facing south with sweeping views to the Cowal Hills, is a substantial stone-built Victorian house standing detached in a large garden and fenced from the side of the Leacan Burn which tumbles down from the 1500ft high hills separating Loch Awe from Loch Fyne.

Braleckan, is now divided into three comfortable, completely self-contained houses - each with its own entrance, picnic-bench and parking space.  One of these is Leckan, which provides most attractive accommodation.  The cosy sitting room has an open fire, perfect for toasting toes after a day in the great outdoors.  There is a comprehensively fitted dining kitchen, a good-size double bedroom and a twin bedroom with elegant antique twin beds.

It was across these hills that, for many years and not so long ago, cattle-drovers herded thousands of head of cattle over the Muir of Leckan towards the markets and pack-horses transported charcoal to the nearby village of Furnace on what came to be known as 'the much frequented path'. The bustle and commotion then near Braleckan must have been tremendous, but nowadays the peace of this lovely countryside is restored so that you can wake to the song of the wild birds and the rushing stream and enjoy rewarding walks over the same paths.

Inveraray, the nearby small town, will be well-known from the appearance of its distinctive black and white frontage on many a Scots calendar.  The Castle and Jail there are well-known tourist attractions which should not be missed and it also has interesting small shops and good eating places.  At the head of the loch is The Loch Fyne Smokery and Oyster Bar where you can stock up on fishy treats, and the Ardkinglas Woodland Garden, while to the south you have the NT gardens at Crarae.

At the end of the drive to the house and across the road is the Auchendrain Farming Museum, which provides  a fascinating insight into how they used to live and work in the  'good old days'.

From Inveraray you have good road access to such magnets as Oban, Fort William, Loch Lomond, The Trossachs - but there is also the whole Mull of Kintyre to explore to the south and wonderful scenery and history in the immediate vicinity without travelling too far.

Heating is by open-fire and oil-CH (first £15 INCLUDED). Bed-linen and towels are INCLUDED. We regret no pets. No smoking within the property.

Have had a lovely week in this peaceful house which is so comfortable. House is very well-equipped and appointed. The owner was so welcoming and friendly and extremely helpful. A lovely area and a lovely house in which to escape the rat race and to enjoy peace and tranquility.

Once again a peaceful, restful week. Sunshine every day. Tha lambs are comical to watch gamboling all around the field. There's nothing we can add about Braleckan that we haven't already said except that the new bathroom is fabulous. Looking forward to our next visit in October.

Another wonderful week at Braleckan. We are now thoroughly rested and refreshed. We've been here so many times we cannot find words to express our love of this cottage and surroundings.

We have had a wonderfully relaxing week, enjoying the Scottish sunshine! Wonderful cottage, wonderful location and so very tranquil. We didn't quite appreciate how much of Scotland there is to see and how stunning it all is. Very happy memories and we hope we will return soon.
