The Boathouse is a truly splendid conversion of, well, a boathouse, which sits, as you would expect, at the water's edge of Loch Etive, some 5 miles east of Oban on Scotland's lovely west coast.  While accessed from the A85 which runs behind and above it, the cottage still contrives to be detached and secluded, surrounded by woodland and with a small beach alongside, and with a decked terrace from which to enjoy the fabulous views across the water.

Inside, there is a bright and comfortable living room with wood-burning stove and French doors to the terrace, an excellent and superbly appointed kitchen-diner (French doors to the water's edge) and a double bedroom and shower room, while upstairs there is a twin bedroom and bathroom, both of which have coombed ceilings.

This is a place to relax and unwind.  Connel village, with a shop/PO and restaurants, is just a short walk from the cottage.  Oban has all facilities and is also the starting point for boat trips to Mull, Iona and some of the other small isles.  There is a lovely beach just 3 miles to the north at Tralee Bay in Benderloch (karting there too) and another 10 minute drive will bring you to the Sea Life Centre at Barcaldine.  You can continue further up to Appin (17m), where there is riding (cantering across the beach at low tide is an unforgettable experience), and further to Ballachulish which stands at the entrance to Glencoe (33m) so beloved of walkers and climbers.  Or you can continue towards Fort William and the Road to the Isles.  So much choice - far too much to fit in just a week!

There are steps down to the cottage which make it unsuitable for those of limited mobility.  Because of its proximity to the water it is unsuitable for children under 10.  There is off road parking for a car at the top of the steps and parking for a second vehicle can be arranged with the owner.

Oil fired CH, electricity, bed linen and towels are INCLUDED.  Sorry, no pets or smoking within the property.

Excellent cottage. Warm and cosy. Well equipped. Saw an otter and a red squirrel on the decking.

Great cottage made for a relaxing holiday. Weather was really good. Went on a cruise to Barra. Saw 3 basking sharks. Plenty to see in the area. View from cottage great - evening sunsets and wildlife (seals and birds). Will come back.

This is our second visit and it was every bit as good as the first. Everything we needed for a much needed relaxing holiday. Will be back next year!

Pigg party, West Yorkshire 24/05/2009

Brilliant location for Loch Ness to Crinan. Despite a lot of rain there's too much to do and someone stole a few days.....or at least it seems so. Very comfortable cottage. Will miss it!

Baxters and Davidsons, Aberdeen 28/06/2009

Terrific spot. How unusual to have a modern TV with a selection of more than 3 channels. Sadly no otters during our stay but herons and owls galore. Found 2 great eateries in Oban - Coast and Seafood Temple. Check out Dungallan Country House for a sunset and a half. A great week. PS Caught pollack from the balcony!

Tillson party, Essex 29/05/2010

Breathtaking views. Lovely location. Warm, cosy cottage. Well equipped. Shame about the weather. Would certainly recommend the cottage. Had a visit from the otter twice at the beginning of the week. Lots of ducks and herons.

Had a wonderful week. Visited Mull, Iona and Isle of Seil and some beautiful gardens. Saw seals, rabbits, herons, ducks and as if on cue, the otter appeared on the last night. A lovely house. Thank you for the welcome. Would love to come back.
