Glenfintaig Farmhouse is situated just three miles north of Spean Bridge in the heart of historic and beautiful Lochaber. This is the Highlands par excellence - mountain grandeur, sparkling lochs, tumbling streams.  It was this glorious wilderness that sheltered Bonnie Prince Charlie following his defeat at Culloden and, more recently, was chosen as the training ground for the newly formed Commando units of the Second World War.  Their evocative and dramatic memorial is just down the road from the Farmhouse.

The house itself stands in its own enclosed garden (furniture) on the hillside with lovely views down the glen towards the mountains.  Inside, it has recently been refurbished and is now centrally heated and double-glazed with a new and extended kitchen and some solid oak floors.  For extra warmth, the comfortable sitting room has a log burning stove.

There is so much to do in the area that it is difficult to know where to start!  Close to home, the house is part of a small estate and there is a stocked loch (fly fishing only) just a few hundred yards down the track from the house, which guests are welcome to use at no extra charge.  Stalking for red, sika and roe deer can also be arranged in season on the nearby hills. (4 weeks notice required.)

Climbers will be pleased to find Ben Nevis just 10 miles down the road, and numerous other Munros within easy reach.  For the less energetic, there are many less challenging trails to be enjoyed.  At Aonach Mor, just 20 minutes drive away,  Britain's only mountain gondola will whisk you up 2150 feet for ski-ing and snow boarding in winter and stunning views and the Snowgoose restaurant all year round..  At Aonach Mhor there is also a national biking centre and bikes can be hired.  Riding can be arranged at Torlundy, just north of Fort William.  Spean Bridge and Fort William both have excellent golf courses.

For touring too, you would be hard put to it to find a more convenient spot.  To the north east, you will quickly reach Loch Ness and the Caledonian Canal.  (Or enjoy a walk along the towpath, at Neptune's Staircase,  at Banavie, near Fort William.)  To the west, you can take the 'Road to the Isles' out to Morar, with its silver sands, and Mallaig, or head north west to Skye and the beautiful west coast.  And to the south, you can visit brooding Glencoe or press further south to Oban.  To the east, lovely Glen Roy, with its famous 'Levels' is also well worth a visit.

Spean Bridge has shops, hotels and several excellent restaurants and Fort William has a leisure centre, boat trips and all facilities.

Central heating (from September to May) and the first £10 of electricity  is INCLUDED.  Bed linen and towels are INCLUDED.  Well-behaved dogs are welcome by arrangement, but, as the house is surrounded by a working sheep farm, must be kept under strict control at all times.  Water comes from a natural spring and is double UV and double boron filtered. Pressure can sometimes drop or the supply be interrupted in times of drought and spate.  A call to the caretaker will usually result in normal service being resumed very quickly!

A Highland welcome pack of groceries, including meats, cheeses (many of local origin) may be ordered for your arrival from the Lochaber Farm Shop.  A refundable householder's deposit of £100 is payable on arrival.
