Honeymooners or those who simply long for escape from the hustle and bustle of 21st century life will just love the Wee House, accessible only by water (or a breathtaking - in every sense - yomp over the hills from Bracora), nestling beneath the mountains on the south shore of Loch Nevis, the 'Loch of Heaven' to the west of Mallaig on Scotland's glorious west coast.
It is hard to believe that the long-gone village of Tarbet, where it is situated, was once a bustling herring port. The cottage was originally a bothy adjoining what was once the local Inn. How things change, but in the case of the Wee House, very much for the better!
The Estate has now completely renovated the Wee House to provide superb accommodation for up to four guests. The upstairs double bedroom has a bathroom across the landing (steep stairs, so this room is not suitable for less able guests), while the twin bedroom downstairs has an adjoining shower room. The two excellent reception rooms have original features such as rough stone walls, and have views over the bay. An oil stove in the living room cosies the whole house while the kitchen has all you need for a comfortable stay.
Hill-walkers can tackle some of the Munros in the area, while the less energetic can enjoy a stroll along the shore. You can fish for dinner off the rocks, and moorings may be available if you wish to bring your own boat. But first and foremost, this is a place simply to chill, relax and enjoy your amazing surroundings.
The ferry calls in to Tarbet from Mallaig on Monday and Friday (and on other weekdays during the summer) and the fare at the beginning and end of your stay is included in the rental. Small estate boats (with outboard motor) may be available by arrangement on site to take you creeling or explore the upper reaches of the loch. The Estate staff will be happy to provide more information.
Please note that there are no shops at Tarbet and all provisions should be brought with you. Seasonal produce including meat and vegetables may be available with the compliments of the Estate for one of your meals - Estate staff will be pleased to discuss availability prior to your arrival and give advice on what is provided and what you should bring with you.
Bed linen, towels, heating and electricity are all INCLUDED in the rental. Water is from a private supply which is UV filtered and tested annually. Sorry pets are not accepted, and smoking is not permitted within the house..
