Mull is one of the most enchanting of Scottish islands, the magic of which calls visitors back year after year.  It is accessible - just a short boat trip from Oban (or you can opt to go the 'pretty way' via Lochaline), has a magnificent coastline of rocky inlets and sandy beaches, magnificent hill and moorland scenery, long empty roads, interesting places to visit, and with all that, an excellent infrastructure, catering for visitors' every need.  No wonder it's so popular.

All our cottages on Mull have a tendency to fill every week they are available so we are particularly delighted to add Altcreich to their number, particularly as we know that it's just the kind of place that Unique Cottage's clients love.  It also has a splendidly central situation between the hills and the shore, just north of Craignure on the way to Tobermory, standing all by itself with wonderful views out across the Sound of Mull to the mainland.

Inside, the owners have set themselves the delicate task of introducing modern comforts into the cottage while retaining all its traditional character, and the result is a resounding success.  The sitting room has an open fire and doors to a paved patio area and a delightful grass garden with ponds, a burn and little bridges (care with young children).  There is a well-fitted kitchen and separate dining room plus a downstairs bedroom and shower room, very useful for elderly or less mobile party members.  Upstairs there are two bedrooms, still with their original panelling, and with wash basins.  (In all the bedrooms the beds can be pushed together.)  On the other end of the house is a utility/drying room, while an outbuilding houses a storage area, fridge and further WC.

So now that you are sold on the house, what are the other attractions?  To the north you are within 20 miles of Tobermory (all facilities), the picturesque 'capital' of the island, with its brightly coloured houses clustered round the harbour.  From Aros, you can cut across inland to Dervaig, home of the celebrated Mull Little Theatre, and on to the fabulous beach at Calgary.  The drive down the west coast of the island to Ulva is absolutely stunning, with panoramic views across the sea to Coll and Tiree.

By then you are well on the way to The Ross of Mull and unforgettable Iona with its silver sand beach and peaceful Abbey, where Columba first brought Christianity to Scotland in 564.  On the way, you might take a detour to see the imposing cliffs at Carsaig, a site much loved by artists.  Perhaps it is becoming clear why one holiday on Mull is simply not enough.

Heating is by electricity (first £15 INCLUDED).  Bed linen and towels are INCLUDED.  Up to two well behaved pets are welcome by arrangement.  No smoking within the cottage.  Please note that this property lets from FRIDAY-FRIDAY.
