Ardranach Cottage has a heavenly situation close to the shores of Loch Snizort, nestled between the Vaterish and Trotternish peninsulas on the spectacular Isle of Skye.  Despite its tranquil surroundings, it is not far from the 'capital' of the island, Portree (8 miles).

This 100-year-old croft house has been beautifully restored and offers the perfect setting for a romantic getaway.  Its central location makes it a great base for exploring in all directions and its comfortable and relaxed interior creates the ideal atmosphere for cosying up at the end of the day.  Its quaint, welcoming beamed sitting room with open fire and well-equipped dining-kitchen with traditional oil Rayburn provide generous living space.  Upstairs the cottage continues to offer an abundance of space for a couple, with its stylishly presented double bedroom with coombed ceiling, luxury shower room and open plan study area with books, maps and brochures to ensure you are able to get the very most out of your stay.  But that's not all.  This cottage has a further jewel in its crown - its south facing conservatory which leads on to a walled garden with furniture, both perfect for relaxing with a book or a drink.

Loch Snizort is fed by the celebrated river Snizort, which is renowned for many reasons.  It is the longest sea river on the Isle of Skye, meandering approximately 10 miles from its source, the remote Loch Duagrich, to its finale, a sea estuary leading to Lower Minch.  As well as its legendary length the river has a rather macabre history; it is said that in 1539, after a battle between the MacLeods and the MacDonalds, a number of decapitated heads were seen floating down its rushing waters!  More recently though it has become increasingly well known for its abundant fishing potential, featuring in 'Trout and Salmon' magazine.  However, with such spectacular surroundings, even if you don't catch anything, you certainly  won't regret your time spent on its banks!

Also nearby is the Skeabost Country Hotel (1 mile) with its own nine hole golf course, fine dining restaurant and conservatory bistro, all of which are available to non-residents.  Portree also offers a range of highly commended restaurants and eateries, a picturesque harbour, the opportunity to view the beauty of the island from the sea on a boat trip and the Aros Centre where you can discover more about the interesting history of the island.  Supermarkets and shops for all your necessities can also be found in this thriving cultural centre.

The Isle of Skye offers such a variety of activities and experiences to be jointly enjoyed and the most stunning scenery which begs to be shared.  Ardranach Cottage, with its divine situation and alluring warm ambience will allow you to gather many treasured memories of your time on the island.

Heating by oil central heating (£15 INCLUDED) and open-fire.  Bed-linen, towels and electricity INCLUDED.  Two well-behaved dogs are welcome by arrangement.  Sorry, smoking is not permitted in this property.  Wi-Fi is available, subject to provider.

The Moss Party, Fife 25/06/2011

Beautiful cottage in lovely location. Even better than the photos on the web! Our dog particularly loved curling up in front of the Raeburn. The dog biscuits left for our arrival was a lovely touch. Lovely to be able to buy fresh eggs from the croft next door. Lovely to find somewhere (without laminate flooring which our dog detests!) where dogs are so welcome. definitely hope to return in the future.
