If you drive up the lovely island of Skye towards Portree and take the Dunvegan road when you come to Sligachan, then left again along the south shore of Loch Harport, (passing the Talisker Distillery on the way!) you will come to Glendale Cottage at Portnalong.
The owners, who live across the drive, have substantially upgraded this compact but most attractive cottage, with double glazing, new heating, furnishings and fittings, to ensure that it will provide snug and comfortable accommodation at all seasons of the year. Outside, there is ample parking, and a seating area with furniture and barbecue and with views over the loch, while from the other side of the cottage you look away to the Cuillins to the south. There is also secure lockable storage for bikes etc.
Here, you are just about in the centre of the island so that you can visit all the different peninsulae of Skye very easily, yet, if you do not want to move far afield, you are in an attractive crofting area which has pleasant moorland and coastal walks. If you are looking for something more challenging, but without going to the extremes of the Cuillins, the interestingly shaped, flat-topped hills known as MacLeod's Tables are further to the north west via the Dunvegan road. There is a small sandy beach at Fiscavaig (1.5m), watersports, fishing and a slipway for launching boats onto Loch Harport a half-mile away. The access road for The Cuillins and Glen Brittle just nearby.
There is a popular pub and restaurant on the road along the loch at Carbost, and tours and tastings at that afore-mentioned distillery.
Heating is by electricity (£10 INCLUDED). Bed-linen and towels are INCLUDED. Two small or one larger pets are welcome by arrangement. Sorry, no smoking in the cottage.
