This very typical, traditional, whitewashed Highland croft house has a quiet situation on the Trotternish on the northern tip of the beautiful Island of Skye, with glorious views across the Minch to the Outer Hebrides beyond.  The fact that Highland cattle are often to be found grazing in the adjoining field simply completes the Highland idyll.  There is parking at the door.

The cottage is both comfortable and well-equipped, retaining many traditional features such as wood-lined walls and exposed natural stone.  It has two cosy sitting rooms, both with open fires and TVs, a modern dining kitchen, small utility room, and a family bathroom.  Upstairs, there are three bedrooms, two doubles (on king-size) and a single.

There is good walking directing from the cottage and within half an hour you can be on the edge of the cliffs, looking out for Minke whales and basking sharks in season.  There is also excellent sea fishing within 10 minutes of the cottage.

This is a most interesting corner of Skye, some 24 miles from the 'capital' Portree, where there are supermarkets, restaurants, pubs etc.  The village of Uig is just 9 miles away, with a village shop, hotels and eating places.  From there, you can catch the ferry over to Stornoway on Lewis.

In the other direction, you can head right round to the northernmost tip of Skye, perhaps taking in the ruined Duntulm Castle on the way.  The Duntulm Hotel is just a mile from the cottage and offers meals, though winter opening hours can be a bit erratic.  The  Flodigarry Hotel incorporates the home of Flora Macdonald, who famously assisted Bonnie Prince Charlie's escape after Culloden, and she and her husband are buried nearby.  For natural wonders, you will be hard pressed to beat the Quiraing, the amazing rock structures behind the village of Staffin (5m).  For the best views, head back over to Uig from Staffin by the little single track road which winds up between these amazing pinnacles.

Staffin has two shops for grocery and fuel shopping and two cafes, one, the Columba Centre, with internet access.

The Old Man of Storr is just down the road from Staffin, and is a most popular walk on a good day.  Staffin is the place where dinosaur bones were found in 1994, and is a rich source of fossil finds.

The kitchen has a multi-fuel fire which operates the heating and hot water and there are additional electric heaters.  Bed linen, the first £15 of electricity and a starter pack of logs are INCLUDED in the rental and towels may be hired.  Sorry, no pets and smoking is not permitted within the property.
