Ullapool, Wester Ross

You can't get much closer to the water than Ornsay House, which stands beside the harbour in the picturesque West Highland village of Ullapool.  The road on which it stands is a quiet dead end road and it has lovely views across the water, not to mention a ringside seat for the departure of the twice daily boat to the Hebrides.  There is an enclosed garden to side and rear, and off street parking behind.

This is a Thomas Telford House, once an old manse, and, as you would expect with such origins,  is a solid, traditional Highland home providing warm and comfortable accommodation,  which has been very well refurbished by its present owners for their own future use.  With six bedrooms and two bathrooms, it is ideal for larger parties or two families.  One further bedroom may be available downstairs  which would make the accommodation very suitable for anyone of limited mobility.

Ullapool, on the shores of Loch Broom, is an excellent centre for exploring the glorious scenery of Wester Ross, while being close to local amenities.  Just to the north, on the Coigach, there is some of the most spectacular scenery in the whole of the UK, with wonderful opportunities for climbing and walking, loch and sea fishing, and cycling.  There is also a sandy beach at Achnahairdh.

Drive round to Achiltibuie, or take the 'wee mad road' to Lochinver.  Your camera will never be in its case.  Three miles further to the north is the glorious beach at Achmelvich. From there, you can even continue to Durness and Cape Wrath, the north westernmost point of mainland Scotland.  Or, to the south, there is Gairloch and the famous sub-tropical gardens at Poolewe.

There are boat trips from the harbour to the Summer Isles  and to see the marine life in the area.

Ullapool has hotels, shops, a leisure centre with pool and even a golf course, so there is not chance of visitors being bored, whatever the weather.

Bed linen and towels, the first £10 of electricity and the first £15 of oil central heating are INCLUDED in the rental.  Up to two well-behaved pets are welcome by arrangement.  No smoking in the cottage.
