The Old Schoolhouse at Achduart is set in magnificent mountain and maritime scenery just 200 yards from the sea and some 4 miles from the village of Achiltibuie (shops, petrol, renowned Summer Isles Hotel/Restaurant) which is north-west of Ullapool. Facing south, towards The Summer Isles and Dundonell Mountains, it stands alone, surrounded by garden boasting many fine azaleas and rhododendrons - an old Victorian stone-built house which is equipped and maintained to a high standard.
It is a lovely peaceful place from which to explore the mountains, lochs, beaches and moorlands of this remote and beautiful part of Scotland. Here whales, seals, deer and golden eagles can sometimes be seen in their natural habitat, while many seabirds and the garden can be enjoyed from the sun-room. The comfortable sitting-room was the former schoolroom to which children had had to walk up to 4 miles along the coast each way, in the olden days to get their education.
The house is spacious, warm at all seasons and very well equipped - the owners have given much thought to providing everything that guests could possibly require. All the principal rooms are south facing, so they get plenty of light and have enticing views of the sea beyond the garden.
While the gardens are gradually being restored to their former glory, at present they and the wooded area alongside, are a paradise for children to play. Parents should be advised that there are a couple of small ponds and there is also direct access to the shore over a stile, so care should be exercised with very young children.
Oil central-heating, fuel, electricity, bed-linen and towels are all INCLUDED. Pets are usually welcome by prior arrangement. Sorry, no smoking in the cottage.
