There are several accommodation options on Main Street: try the excellent Fàilte (tel 01688/302495; £40-50), the Harbour Guest House (tel 01688/302209; under £40), or the small, friendly SYHA hostel (tel 01688/302481, www.syha.org.uk; March-Oct). The grand Victorian Western Isles Hotel (tel 01688/302012, wihotel@aol.com; £70-90) sits high above the bay. The nearest campsite is Newdale (tel 01688/302525; April-Oct), nicely situated one and a half miles outside Tobermory on the B8073 to Dervaig.
Main Street is heaving with places to eat. You can get huge bar meals in the lounge bar at the Mishnish, but for more imaginative local seafood and meat dishes, you need to go to Back Brae (evenings only), which does moderately expensive set menus and à la carte, or to the Western Isles Hotel, which serves superior bar food in the conservatory overlooking the Sound of Mull. The Mishnish has been the most popular local pub for many years, and features live music at the weekend, It's also the focus of Mull's annual Traditional Music Festival, a feast of Gaelic folk music held on the last weekend in April. Mull's other major musical event, after the folk festival, is the annual Mendelssohn on Mull Festival, held over ten days in early July, which commemorates the composer's visit here in 1829.
