The main A92 road cuts right through Central Fife, ultimately connecting the Forth Road Bridge on the southern coast of Fife with the Tay Road Bridge on the northern coast. The main settlement of this inland region is Glenrothes, a new town created after World War II in old coal mining territory. Generally the scenery in this part of the county is pleasant rather than startling, though it is worth diverting off the road, however, to seek out Falkland and its magnificent ruined palace, and Cupar, the county town on the road to St Andrews.
