North of Stirling, a ten-minute walk from the fine Victorian spa town of BRIDGE OF ALLAN, lies Stirling University, until 1992 (when all British colleges and polytechnics acquired university status), the youngest university in Scotland and once one of the most radical. Its buildings exemplify successful 1960s architecture, and the landscaped grounds are beautiful - resplendent with daffodils in spring, rhododendrons along the sides of the artificial Airthrey Loch in summer, and the rich colours of the Ochil Hills as a backdrop in autumn. Frequent buses run to the university and Wallace Monument from Murray Place in Stirling, including the Guide Friday tour and local buses #62 and #63.
