Transport practicalities
Unless you're prepared to spend weeks on the road, the Highlands are simply too vast to see in a single trip. Most visitors, therefore, base themselves in one or two areas, exploring the coast or hills on foot, and making longer hops across the interior by car or public transport. With a little forward planning you can see a surprising amount using buses and trains, especially if you fill in with postbuses (for which you can get timetables at most post offices). It is worth remembering, however, that on Sundays bus services are sporadic at best and you may well find most shops and restaurants closed.
