To get to the heart of Glen Coe from Fort William by public transport either hop on the Glasgow-bound Scottish Citylink coach service, or catch the daily postbus from Fort William post office (Mon-Fri 9.30am, Sat 9am). The Highland County bus #44 from Fort William to Kinlochleven also stops at Glencoe village.
There's a good selection of accommodation in Glen Coe and the surrounding area. Basic options include an SYHA hostel (tel 01855/811219, www.syha.org.uk) on a back road halfway between Glencoe village and the Clachaig Inn and the year-round Red Squirrel campsite (tel 01855/811256) nearby. Glencoe village has a few comfortable B&Bs, such as the secluded Scorry Breac (tel 01855/811354, john@scorrybreac.freeserve.co.uk; under £40), and the Glen Coe Guest House (tel 01855/811244; under £40), while the best-known hotel in the area is the stark Clachaig Inn (tel 01855/811252, www.glencoe-scotland.co.uk; £50-60), a great place to swap stories with fellow climbers and to reward your exertions with pints of beer and heaped platefuls of food; it's three miles up Glen Coe, on the minor road from Glencoe village. At the other, eastern end of the glen, close to the Glen Coe ski area, is another well-established climber's watering hole, the Kingshouse Hotel (tel 01855/851259; £40-50 excludes breakfast), a classic wayfarers' inn which always proves a welcome sight after the wide emptiness of Rannoch Moor. You can rent mountain bikes and tandems from the Clachaig Inn.
