Arrival, information and city transport

Dundee's airport (tel 01382/643242) is five minutes' drive west of the city centre (£2-3 by taxi). By train, you'll arrive at Taybridge Station on South Union Street (tel 0845/748 4950), about 300 yards south of the city centre near the river. Long-distance buses arrive at the Seagate bus station (tel 0870/608 2608), a couple of hundred yards east of the centre.

The very helpful tourist office is right in the centre of things at 21 Castle St (June-Sept Mon-Sat 9am-6pm, Sun noon-4pm; Oct-May Mon-Sat 9am-5pm; tel 01382/527527, www.angusanddundee.co.uk or www.dundeecity.gov.uk), and sells bus tickets as well as booking accommodation. You can also pick up the free Accent listings magazine here, which details local theatre, music and exhibitions. The city's two daily newspapers are the morning Courier & Advertiser and the Evening Telegraph & Post.

Dundee's centre is reasonably compact and you can walk to most sights; local buses leave from the High Street or from Albert Square, one block to the north; for bus information, call 01382/201121 or go to the Travel Dundee Travel Centre, 95 Commercial St. A Daysaver ticket, with unlimited bus travel for a day, costs £2.
