Glenshee is the most accessible of Scotland's ski areas, just over two hours from both Glasgow and Edinburgh; for information, contact Ski Glenshee (tel 013397/41320, www.ski-glenshee.co.uk), who also offer ski rental and lessons. In addition, lessons, skis and boards are available from Cairnwell Mountain Sports (tel 01250/885255), at the Spittal of Glenshee. Ski rental starts at around £12 a day, while lessons are around £10 for two hours. Lift passes cost £18 per day or £72 for a five-day (Mon-Fri) ticket.
