***Introductory Comments***

Welcome to the March issue of the Uniquely Unspoilt newsletter.

While many attractions in rural Scotland have been closed over the winter and are due to open next month for spring, there is still plenty to do in the meantime.

This issue?s main feature details coastal villages to visit around Scotland, which include great opportunities to spot wildlife, including whales and dolphins, find out about local history, go for walks and taste Scotland?s excellent seafood.

March?s guest article is on one of the most famous things about Scotland, the bagpipes.  From the Edinburgh Tattoo to local competitions, you can find out where to hear the pipes across Scotland.

As ever, please feel free to get in touch with any comments.

*** Main Feature ***

~~Scottish coastal villages~~

Scotland has a wealth of excellent coastal villages, often offering both incredible scenery and excellent visitor attractions.

One of the most famous is Plockton, near Kyle of Lochalsh, thanks to BBC TV series Hamish Macbeth which was filmed there in the mid 1990s.  Originally known as Am Ploc, Plockton?s main street is lined with palm trees and whitewashed houses, each with a seagull gazing out to sea perched on its chimney stack, and you can also see...Full article>>>

***Guest Article***

This issue?s guest article comes courtesy of Thomas Grotrian of Pipefest, an organisation co-ordinating massed pipe band events both in Scotland and abroad.

Their next event is the annual National Tartan Day Parade in New York on April 3rd, when 2,000 pipers will march down 6th Avenue.  The event is a great means of promoting Scotland internationally, and has been led in previous years by Sean Connery.

Here Thomas explains where and when to see piping events across Scotland throughout the year.

~~The Bagpipes - by Thomas Grotrian~~

One of Scotland?s most enduring and instantly recognised international icons is the Great Highland Bagpipe.  Visitors arriving in Edinburgh at Waverley Station are often greeted by the sound of a busker working his (or nowadays often her) way through the old favourites.

During the summer months, the streets of Scotland?s towns are thronged with similar players, many of them students who have found a more rewarding way of working through the summer months than bar work...Full article>>>
