***Introductory Comments***

Welcome to the October issue of Uniquely Unspoilt.

Although the days are getting shorter there is still plenty to do around Scotland during the next couple of months.

Copious amounts of whisky-drinking, haggis-eating and ceilidh-dancing will be taking place on November 30th to celebrate Scotland's Patron Saint on St. Andrew's day.

This month's main article looks at ten things to do in Scotland at any time of year.  Although it's not meant to be a comprehensive list it will hopefully provide some interesting suggestions - from visiting outstanding monuments to spotting some elusive Scottish creatures and even trying unusual delicacies.

While we're on the subject of food our guest article this month looks at Scotland's Annual Wild Harvest Food and Drink Fair, a celebration of Celtic produce held in a traditionally Scottish location dating back thousands of years.

Please feel free to send in any comments as ever.

~~ Ten things to do in Scotland ~~

1.   Visit the Willow Tearoom:

If you're ever in Glasgow, you can't leave without visiting one of its Willow tea rooms, designed in the style of Charles Rennie Mackintosh. The Willow name comes from Sauchiehall, the street where one of the tearooms is situated, which in Scottish Gaelic means alley of the willows and the theme of willows featured throughout the building...Full article>>>

***Guest Article***

Our guest article this month has been written by Barrie Andrian, Managing Director of the Scottish Crannog Centre.  Here she explains what will be happening at the centre's Annual Wild Harvest Food and Drink Fair which is to be held next month.

The Centre, in Aberfeldy, Perthshire, has its own recreated crannog (ancient loch-dwelling) and hold exhibitions, tours and other events such as October's forthcoming Bracken Festival (17th), Quilting Evening Workshop (21st) and Annual Celtic Samhain Festival (31st), an ancient Celtic Halloween festival.

~~ Wild Harvest Food Event - by Barrie Andrian ~~

The Scottish Crannog Centre by Kenmore, Loch Tay, Perthshire is hosting the third annual Wild Harvest Food Event on Sunday, 21st November from 11am to 3pm.  The ancient loch-dwellers would have celebrated their autumnal harvests in style and the modern-day Crannog Crew are working up an appetite as they prepare for this 'Taste the Past' event.

The next newsletter will be in December, and many people say that this is the best time to see many parts of rural Scotland.

Preparations will already be starting for Hogmanay - New Year - which is celebrated in all sorts of different ways across the country.

See you then - comments and suggestions (such as nominees for an alternative top ten things to do in Scotland) are always welcome.
