***Introductory Comments***

Welcome to the second issue.  First of all, many thanks for all the positive comments and ideas you sent in ? please keep them coming!

I hope you managed to take advantage of the excellent weather we?ve had over the last month as much as I have (and I?ve got the sunburn to prove it!).  Long may it continue.

This month?s main feature covers the locations in Scotland favoured by the Royal Family, ranging from the tranquility of Glamis to the pubs of St Andrews.

Our guest article looks at the forthcoming Edinburgh festival as a day trip, a must for both locals and the many thousands of tourists that flock to the capital in August.  As an Edinburgh resident and festival veteran myself, I would add that a day or two is plenty of time to absorb the atmosphere but not long enough to suffer from
festival fatigue which can sink in after a while (believe me!).

Here goes? - Emma

*** Main Feature ***

~~A tour of Scotland?s Royal locations~~

Last week Prince Charles donned a kilt to visit Edinburgh as part of a Royal-backed pro-British tourism day.  Whilst the day may have had a certain amount of pretence about it, the monarchy?s love of Scotland is anything but put on.  Here is a selection of locations with a Royal association.

***Guest Article***

An article about Edinburgh? It?s only the second issue and already I am breaking the rules of Uniquely Unspoilt!  However I promise that focusing on a city will be the exception and that we will be back to rural Scotland next month.

So why am I breaking the rules?  Well, put simply ? I just get more and more into the festival and the Fringe in particular each year!  Further, you don?t need to have a full-on week in town to benefit from it.  A well planned day trip, perhaps including the Tattoo, will provide an action-packed diversion in a week otherwise spent
in the country.

Whilst you will have almost certainly heard of the Edinburgh Festival, not everybody knows how to get the best out of it.  I have therefore asked Kerryn Hurley from the Fringe to put together a survival guide for a day trip...

~~The Edinburgh Festival as a Day Trip ? by Kerryn Hurley~~

So many shows, so much to see and do and so little time to do it all!

Summertime Edinburgh can be an overwhelming prospect for the uninitiated.  The streets overflow with visitors during August and it can be hard to navigate your way around, let alone choose a show to see!

The 'Edinburgh Festival' is actually an umbrella term....Full Article>>>

***Closing Comments***

I feel like I?ve been outdoors over the last month more often than the last few years put together owing to the good weather, including a fantastic spontaneous trip to the beach!  Although I didn?t strip down myself, plenty of people braved swimming in the sea and it was great to see everyone really making the most of the sunshine.   Here?s hoping that there?ll be plenty more such occasions during the rest of the summer ? I might even be
prepared to go for a dip next time.

I?m always keen to hear your comments on the newsletter, as well as any anecdotes and things you?d like to see given a mention.  Drop me an e-mail at emma@uniquescotland.com and I?ll be glad to hear from you.

Roll on July?

Emma
