***Introductory Comments***

Welcome to the August issue of Uniquely Unspoilt.

This issue's main article deals with the issue of tracing your ancestors and how the advent of the internet has made tracing your family history a much faster and simpler process.

The guest article has been written by the Trekking and Riding Society of Scotland and provides an insight on a great way to see the Scottish countryside - on horseback.

Please feel free to send in any comments as ever.

*** Main Feature ***

~~ Going Back to Your Roots ~~

There are 28 million people of Scottish descent worldwide, more and more of whom are tracing their family history using the vast range of increasingly accessible resources. So how can you find out more about your ancestors - and discover once and for all if you're a distant relative of Robert the Bruce or Rob Roy?

How to get started

Internet searches are an excellent place to start...Full article>>>

***Guest Article***

Our guest article this month has been written by Ian Sutherland, chairman of the Trekking and Riding Society of Scotland (TRSS), who explains how horse riding and pony trekking is a great way to see rural Scotland.

The TRSS has been setting standards of rider safety and horse welfare at its member centres for many years, and is recognised as the governing body for recreational riding in Scotland.

But there is a way that even the most lethargic and unfit can take exercise while enjoying the sights and sounds of the countryside...Full article>>>

***Closing Comments***

What is perhaps the most celebrated of all the Highland Games in the world, and is traditionally attended by the Royal Family, the Braemar Gathering takes place on September 2.

Throughout the same month, several attractions will be opening their doors for free at weekends as part of Doors Open Day and this year more than 800 ancient castles, stately homes and grand monuments will be taking part, some of which only give public access at this time.

Till next issue,
