***Introductory Comments***

Welcome to the September issue of the Uniquely Unspoilt newsletter ? I can?t believe it?s the fifth one already!

This month's main article looks at Scottish literary places, from famous authors' homes to their local pubs, and the amazing locations that inspired their writing (the pubs might fall into this category too).

Our guest article tells the stories behind some of Scotland?s haunted castles, with tales of headless horsemen and things that go bump in the night.  Not one to read late at night, or in a castle for that matter.

As ever, please feel free to write in with any comments or suggestions.

Thanks,

Emma

*** Main Feature ***

~~Scottish literary places~~

From Tam O?Shanter to Treasure Island, if you?ve ever wondered where Scotland?s greatest authors got their inspiration, there are several places where you can see exactly where they lived, wrote and the surroundings that fired their imaginations...

Scotland?s national poet Robert Burns is the most famous of them all, and there are plenty of chances to visit his former haunts...Full Article>>>

***Guest Article***

While some people are sceptical about the existence of ghosts and ghouls, anyone who has ever visited a Scottish castle will not take too much convincing that many of them are haunted.

Martin Coventry of Goblinshead, an Edinburgh-based publishers, has kindly detailed the ghostly history of a selection of castles across Scotland.

Goblinshead specialise in popular and tourist books on Scottish castles, ghosts, history and travel.

~~Haunted Castles around Scotland - by Martin Coventry~~

Scotland is famous for its many hundreds of castles, castles with many hundreds of ghost stories. Here is only a small selection: are you brave enough to visit?

Fyvie Castle in Aberdeenshire, one of Scotland's finest and most magnificent strongholds, is said to be haunted by one of its former residents.  At the turn of the 17th century it was owned by Alexander Seton, the Earl of Dunfermline. His wife Lillias Drummond died suddenly, and he remarried in six months, having been contracted to Grizel Leslie only a few weeks after his wife's death.  It was not long before things took a spooky turn...Full Article>>>

***Closing Comments***

If you'd like to find out more about literary Scotland, a visit to Scotland's most intimate book festival may be in order.  The fifth Scottish Book Town Festival is being held at Wigtown near Newton Stewart from 25th - 28th September, and promises a full weekend of events and entertainment celebrating the art of the written word. Guest speakers include Kate Adie and Melvin Bragg.

Lastly, just a quick reminder that there are only a few months left till the results of the prize draw are revealed.  Two cottage holidays are up for grabs; if you?re a winner, it?s an ideal chance to visit an area of Scotland you?ve never been to before, or just to go back to an old favourite.

Until next issue,

Emma
