It has lovely open views across the surrounding countryside to the hills beyond. The owner's house is the only other dwelling nearby but it is completely invisible from the cottage, so privacy and seclusion are assured.
Guests are sure of a warm welcome here. The house is full of charming little touches provided by the thoughtful owners, even down to providing food for the many birds who visit the garden.
The first thing that impresses you as you enter the cottage is its spaciousness. The large, south-facing sitting room is light and bright with windows on three sides and comfortable seating. There are also French doors that open to an attractive and enclosed grass garden (with furniture), perfect for admiring the local wildlife or relaxing on lazy summer evenings.
The excellent dining kitchen is of a size that would not disgrace an average farmhouse. It is well-equipped with modern appliances and has a lovely traditional Belfast sink. There is also plenty of room for dining, allowing for conversation with the cook.
All on one level, the delightful double bedroom has a magnificent super-king bed that lends a touch of real luxury. The shower room is also of a very good size and with so much space both inside and out and in such a peaceful and secluded situation, Hillockhead is a memorable cottage indeed.
The nearest of the glens to the cottage is probably Glen Isla, which offers wonderful walking opportunities.
All the Angus Glens should be visited while you are in the area. Each has its own distinctive character and charm, yet all are peaceful and unspoiled.
The superb beach at Lunan Bay is 35 miles away, and nearby Kirriemuir (6 miles) and Alyth both have all facilities and good golf courses. The championship course at Carnoustie is also quite easily accessible from the cottage. Fishing is available locally - Lintrathen Reservoir is just up the road, as is the RSPB reserve at Kinnordy.
For a bit of urban bustle, Dundee (24 miles) may be the answer. Captain Scott's vessel Discovery may be visited in the harbour, and from there, too, the Tay Bridge will take you across to Fife and historic St Andrews. The late Queen Mother's family home of Glamis Castle is just 7 miles down the road and is well worth a visit.
Perth (25 miles) is an attractive town with interesting shops and a full range of leisure facilities. Pitlochry, with its famous Festival Theatre in the Hills is 34 miles away.
