At the heart of the house is the sitting room that is the ideal place to unwind in front of a crackling fire after busy days out and about or watching a film in the evenings.
The spacious kitchen is very well-equipped with plenty of space for cooking and as the dining area is also in this room it is perfect for enjoying meals together without the cook having to miss out on all the fun.
Halfway up the stairs is a mezzanine level where there is a modern shower room with a large walk-in shower and continuing up there are two bedrooms that lead off a light and bright landing. The attractively presented double bedroom has a king-size bed to stretch out on and the beds in the twin bedroom can be converted into a super king-size bed for maximum flexibility.
The grassed courtyard with its original water trough is very pretty to look out on and the enclosed garden at the rear has an outdoor seating area where al fresco breakfasts or a relaxing drink in the evening can be enjoyed. A gate from the garden leads down steps to the parking area.
On the other side of the courtyard is the Stables Information Hub Centre that has lots of information on the estate and even a little coffee shop.
There are some lovely walks within the estate with red squirrels and other wildlife to look out for along the way and the Crichton Stuart Memorial Chapel to visit that has an interesting history and can host weddings.
Falkland (0.25 miles) itself is an easy walk away along a woodland path and the first thing on the agenda will surely be a visit to the impressive Falkland Palace. Knowledgeable guides, sometimes in period costume, lead tours that showcase the original furnishings and elaborate tapestries or you can explore for yourself making sure to take in the wonderful gardens.
Fans of the TV series Outlander will recognise Falkland as it was used as a filming location to represent 1940s Inverness. The Bruce Fountain in the village will be particularly familiar as it appears several times and the B & B from the first series is actually a hotel that is a good stop off point for lunch or dinner.
There are a choice of pubs and a grocery shop in Falkland and the Pillars of Hercules organic farm shop just 15 minutes’ walk away through the estate is a great place to stock up on supplies. They also offer fresh vegetable boxes that can be delivered straight to the door.
No trip to Fife would be complete without a day on the beach and the long stretch of sand at Leven (12 miles) is just the ticket. Several links golf courses are dotted along the coast and Leven has its own picturesque 18 hole course with some wonderful views to admire during play. The Fife Coastal Path runs through Leven covering 117 miles in total and can be followed in both directions for further exploration of the area.
