The Key House is an unusual property set in an inimitable position right alongside the historic Falkland Palace in the conservation village of Falkland in the heart of Fife.

This charming B-listed building is full of history with lots of interesting original features including the stone lintel above the front door that dates all the way back to 1713. Lovely views out over the garden can be enjoyed from the cosy sitting room where evenings are sure to be spent relaxing in front of the wood-burning stove.
The dining kitchen is spacious and bright with a real homely country feel due to its wooden beamed ceiling, colourful tiling and large dining table with plenty of room for everyone to gather together. There is also a handy pantry off the kitchen providing useful extra storage and steps lead down to a little utility room where the laundry facilities are.
Steep stairs lead up to the bedrooms where the en suite double bedroom has a king-size bed to stretch out on and a lovely window seat to admire views of the palace walls from. There are two further twin bedrooms, one of which has an en suite shower room and the other makes use of the bathroom adjacent.
A bench has been set up on the cobbled area in front of the house so you can sit and watch the world go by or, if you prefer, the garden at the back of the house is nice and private with a lovely seating area.
Tours around your very impressive neighbour Falkland Palace are available with knowledgeable guides that explain the history of the fine royal Renaissance Palace and its wonderful formal gardens. The palace is also home to one of Britain’s oldest tennis courts that dates back to the 16th century.
Falkland was the first conservation village in Scotland and it is easy to see why when you see the interesting architecture that is dotted about. There is a pub/restaurant across the road and a grocery shop just a few doors along. There is also a 9 hole golf course to try out in the village and fans of the Outlander TV series may well recognise the local scenery as some of the filming was done here.
There are mountain biking trails within the Falkland Estate, as well as pretty woodland walking paths and a red squirrel trail that is sure to delight children. There is also good walking in the Lomond hills or East Lomond itself can be tackled for wonderful panoramic views of the surrounding area.
Wildlife lovers will enjoy visiting the RSPB nature reserve (12 miles) at Loch Leven that is home to a variety of birds including whooper swans, curlews, kestrels, pink-footed geese and even ospreys. The Scottish Deer Centre (7.5 miles) is well worth a visit to see Fife’s only wolf pack, 14 different species of deer, otters, elk brown bears and fascinating falconry displays.
Just over half an hour’s drive away at the Knockhill Racing Circuit a programme of exciting motorsport car and bike events are held throughout the year.
Heading east, the ‘home of Golf’ St Andrews (20 miles) is in easy reach where the picturesque coastal links courses draw in golfers from far around and the British Golf Museum charts the interesting history of over 500 years of the game.
