Inside, the realistic gas stove creates a warm and inviting glow through the open plan living area at the heart of the lodge. The neat kitchen area is sectioned off to one side and the dining area has been positioned by the window so the scenery can be admired at mealtimes. French doors open out to a decked area and there is a handy separate utility room with space for hanging coats and storing boots, etc.
Wood-panelling continues throughout the lodge and the attractive bedrooms are all on the one level. The double bedroom has a king-size bed and en suite shower room and the twin bedroom makes use of a modern family bathroom.
Extensive grassed gardens surround the lodge with a bench to sit at and enjoy the peace and quiet and views out across the surrounding farmland to the Lomond hills on the horizon. The lodge is reached by quarter of a mile of rough farm track (shared with the neighbouring house) and parking for up to 2 cars is just alongside.
Cyclists are very well catered for here with hosing down facilities, secure bike storage and an air compressor if required.
Auchtermuchty is easily reachable on foot with a few shops, a tea room and a small supermarket for provisions. It also has a claim to fame as it is the home town of the famous Scottish singers The Proclaimers.
Wildlife enthusiasts will love a visit to the Scottish Deer Centre (7 miles) where you can see lots of different species of deer from around the world, a wolf pack and brown bears. Cupar (10 miles) has a swimming pool and interesting Heritage Centre and just outside at the Cairnie Fruit Farm is an 8 foot tall maze that has been crafted out of maize (open July to September). The adjoining ‘fun yard’ has go karts, trampolines and a straw bale climbing fortress so children are sure to be in their element.
At the Scottish Offroad Driving Centre (4 miles) a challenging 4x4 offroad course gives you the chance to really test your driving skills as well as your nerve. It is quite an adrenalin rush!
Guided tours are available at Hill of Tarvit near Cupar, a 17th century Edwardian mansion with interesting paintings and tapestries and lovely, extensive grounds to wander around whilst keeping an eye out for the cheeky resident red squirrels. There is even a 9 hole hickory golf course where you can play a round as it would have been back in the 1920s with all the original equipment, etc.
Over on the coast the ‘home of golf’ St Andrews (20 miles) is only a 40 minute drive away. It makes for a great day spent playing a round on one of the 3 prestigious golf courses or enjoying an afternoon on the wonderful stretch of sandy beach. Blown Away Experiences offer activities on the beach including land yachting along the sand and kayaking, paddle boarding and surfing (equipment hire and lessons available).
From the train station at Ladybank (7 miles) you can be in the centre of Edinburgh in just an hour for a day’s shopping or sightseeing. Over the winter months a particularly good Christmas market pops up in Princes Street gardens with fairground rides and a big wheel offering absolutely stunning views of the city.
