Dundarroch House is an impressive Victorian house set down a private drive in the hamlet of Brig O’Turk within the Loch Lomond & the Trossachs National Park, just 7 miles from Callander in Perthshire.

At the centre of the house is the grand drawing room that has an open fire to curl up in front of and stunning views out over the gardens to the peak of Ben Venue beyond. There is also a second sitting room and a separate TV room with wood-burning stove to spread out into.
The incredibly spacious kitchen is well-equipped with a large range cooker and a delightful adjoining dining/breakfast room that is very light and bright, with doors leading out to the garden. A utility room houses the laundry facilities and there is also a study (with access to the garden), a games room and two handy twin bedrooms with en suite shower rooms downstairs.
Upstairs are four further double bedrooms all of which are en suite and very attractively presented. The master double bedroom is reached by a separate staircase that leads up from the study. It is has a super king-size bed and a luxurious en suite bathroom with double wash basins and a bath and shower over.
Outside there is parking for several cars right by the door. The lovely paved terrace (with furniture & BBQ) is the ideal spot to sit and enjoy the wonderful views across the sprawling lawns towards Ben Venue.
The charming grounds extend to 7.5 acres with established plants and trees (including colourful rhododendron and butterfly orchids), as well as red squirrels, pine martens, deer and foxes to try to spot. There are lots of pretty walks in the grounds and fishing is available on the doorstep as the house is flanked by the River Turk and the Black Water.
The Byre Inn, in very easy walking distance, serves excellent meals with lots of locally sourced produce so it is ideal for a night off from cooking.
Brig O’Turk has a PO and a tearoom less than half a mile away. Keep an eye out in the village for the intriguing ‘Bicycle Tree’ that has grown and enveloped a bike that was left leaning against it.
The National Cycle Route runs through the National Park and can be joined nearby. The River Turk flows down from the Glen Finglas reservoir (1.5 miles) where the Mell Circuit walking route offers beautiful views of the reservoir and a lovely waterfall along the way. The route is 17 miles in total and is quite hilly, so it is best to set aside a whole day to tackle it. There are also several munros and corbetts nearby and Ben Lomond is only an hour’s drive away.
The town of Callander (7 miles) on the River Teith has a couple of supermarkets, a range of small shops, a leisure centre (with a swimming pool and climbing wall) and an 18-hole golf course.
Doune Castle (15 miles) is well known as it was one of the filming sets used in the ‘Game of Thrones’ and ‘Outlander’ TV series. There is a Safari Park at Blair Drummond (17.5 miles) and when you reach Stirling (23 miles) there are many historical sites including Stirling Castle and the towering Wallace Monument.
Just off the Duke’s Pass on the way to Aberfoyle the Three Lochs Forest Drive, a one way 7 mile long scenic route (small charge), takes you on a tour around Lochan Reoidhte, Loch Drunkie and Loch Achray.
If you are feeling adventurous you may want to try the Go Ape treetop course at Aberfoyle (6 miles). For a more relaxing afternoon, the Scottish Wool Centre has a gift shop with cashmere, tweed and whisky on offer and various breeds of sheep on display outside, as well as daily sheepdog and duck shows.
