Here is an opportunity to holiday in a little bit of history! Kilbryde Castle, centrally situated near Dunblane in Perthshire, has been in the same family since 1659, though there has been a building on the site since 1460.

It occupies what must have been a strategic position in those more turbulent times, on the side of a gorge of the River Ardoch, which surrounds it on three sides. Its immediate environment is now no less peaceful and beautiful than the imposing castle itself, set among 15 acres of magnificent grounds, composed of both wild and formal gardens which are a haven for a wide variety of wildlife.
In the present castle, rebuilt in 1870 in the baronial style of the period, is the two bedroom, ground floor Kilbryde Castle Apartment. It is set in what would once have been 'below stairs' (witness the impressive line of original servants' bells in the main corridor) and has now been most elegantly converted to allow guests to taste gracious and spacious living very much in the 'upstairs' style.
The lightness and brightness of the accommodation is another attractive feature. The rooms are all large and the very comfortable living area has a superb stone fireplace, which is now home to a flame effect electric stove.
The kitchen is well-equipped, there are two excellent double bedrooms (both ziplink) and the bathroom has a central bath and a separate shower. Guests have their own private entrance with plenty of parking and access to the splendid gardens.
For all its peaceful setting, the castle is only 3 miles from both rail and motorway connections, within an hour of both Glasgow and Edinburgh and within easy distance of some of Scotland's principal attractions.
Nearby Doune and Dunblane (3 miles) have all facilities and Stirling with its dramatic castle, Wallace Monument, Bannockburn Memorial and University is only 8 miles away. On the M9 to the north east, are first and foremost for golf enthusiasts Gleneagles (14 miles) and beyond that are Perth, Fife and the Highlands, all of which are viable destinations for an enjoyable day trip.
Historic Doune Castle is just down the road, while the pretty tourist town of Callander (11 miles) is on the edge of the Queen Elizabeth Forest Park, where hill walkers can tackle Ben Ledi, only one of numerous good walks in the area. The Trossachs and Loch Lomond too can be reached within the hour.
In addition to the immediate grounds, those with a particular interest in wildlife will enjoy the red kite feeding station at Argaty, just outside Doune, while for even more exotic tastes, the Blair Drummond Safari Park is on the way to Callander. Fishermen can try their hand in the Teith or the Lake of Menteith. The excellent infrastructure round Kilbryde ensures provision for all interests, while the luxurious apartment will make a welcome haven to which to return each evening.
