This inviting lodge is the perfect romantic getaway ideally placed for exploring the delights of Perthshire, or simply staying put and enjoying the picturesque surroundings.
It is kept very warm and cosy by a stove that burns logs or the more traditional peat and has the luxury of underfloor heating throughout. The main living area is open plan so everything is to hand and the lovely dining area has been cleverly positioned by the window for admiring the loch at mealtimes.
The lodge is all on one level and the beautiful views can be further admired from the bedroom without even having to get out of bed, making a lovely start to each day. After days spent out and about, the bathroom with its whirlpool bath is the ideal place to enjoy a relaxing soak.
Outside the decked balcony is delightful to sit out on with a drink in the evening and is also a great vantage point for spotting the red squirrels that often visit the garden. Some guests are lucky enough to see ospreys feeding on the loch or perhaps even witness the mesmerising Northern Lights.
To the rear of the lodge is a terraced woodland garden with further seating. There are steep steps, slopes, drops and an unfenced burn in the garden, so care should be taken.
St Fillans is in easy walking distance where there is a shop for basic provisions (and fishing licenses/tackle), a café and a hotel restaurant for evening meals or afternoon tea.
The picturesque 9 hole golf course in the village welcomes visitors with day tickets and buggy hire available and golf enthusiasts will want to pay a visit to the famous Gleneagles course in Auchterarder (23 miles).
Those looking for an adrenaline rush will love Loch Earn Watersports (3.5 miles) on the south side of the loch where water skiing, paddle boarding and wake boarding can all be tried out.
Secure bike storage is available at the lodge and it is possible to walk or cycle along the old railway route to the village of Comrie, where bikes can be hired. A path from the village leads out on a circular walk to the River Lednock and its two waterfalls – the Deil’s Cauldron and the smaller but still impressive Wee Cauldron.
The Auchingarrich Wildlife Centre in the hills south of Comrie will appeal to all ages with its exotic wildlife including meer cats, lemurs and Scottish wildcats. The outdoor activity centre there also offers archery, axe throwing, fly fishing and bushcraft activities.
Crieff (13 miles) is the place for supermarket shopping and, heading further afield, the historic city of Stirling is under an hour’s drive away where you can visit the impressive Stirling Castle for a guided tour or climb up the steps in the National Wallace Monument for a stunning view of the city. Bustling Perth (31 miles) on the beautiful River Tay is also easily reachable for a day trip.
