7 miles north of Pitlochry and just 1.75 miles from the village of Blair Atholl (with hotels and shops) at the southern gateway of the Cairngorms National Park. It is hidden away 1,000 feet up in the hills of Glen Fender and boasts the most stunning views across miles and miles of green countryside down to the Duke of Atholl's Blair Castle and the hills by Loch Tummel and Loch Tay.
Inside it is a snug and comfortable retreat, arranged so that most of the rooms can share the superb outlook and are bright and sunny. All the rooms are most comfortably furnished in a traditional style which perfectly complements the style of the house. The snug sitting room has comfortable seating around its open fire, adding both additional warmth and plenty of cosy ambience at the end of a day exploring this lovely area.
The well-equipped kitchen has a dining area right at its heart that is ideal for leisurely evening meals putting the world to rights. There are laundry facilities and a freezer in an adjoining outhouse, which also doubles up as secure storage for bikes, etc. The fact that one of the attractive and spacious double bedrooms and the bathroom are downstairs is another plus.
Upstairs there are two bedrooms, a double and a twin, both of which are light and bright with slightly coombed ceilings and the original fireplaces that have been retained as an another attractive feature.
Within the bounds of the Cairngorm National park, Tirinie (the old Scots word for Trinity) was once a peaceful retreat for Church of Scotland ministers who came to recover their energy and revive their spiritual well-being.
You can well understand why they left refreshed, for today Tirinie still offers the same peace and quiet and sense of uplift. At the same time it is only a few miles from the A9 and about halfway between Edinburgh and Inverness, with excellent road connections in all directions. It is within easy reach of that busy magnet for visitors, Pitlochry, with its very well-known Festival Theatre, sporting opportunities, shops, restaurants, museums and romantic countryside round about.
If you are coming from a distance, you can also arrive by train at Blair Atholl and then hire a car locally. You can hire mountain bikes to ride right across country to Braemar on Royal Deeside.
Blair Castle is the seat of the Dukes of Atholl, the only family in the country entitled to keep their own private army! The castle is open to visitors and the Atholl Highlanders parade at the Atholl Gathering in May. In August the Castle also hosts the Blair Castle International Horse Trials, one of Scotland’s premier equestrian events. For something more everyday, guests should not fail to stock up on bread and other goodies at the village’s superb Watermill bakery. The village also offers golf, pony trekking and a distillery!
Visits to some of the loveliest lochs in Scotland, Tummel, Tay and Rannoch, the latter two of which offer a full range of watersports, are all easily achievable from Tirinie, while lovers of wildlife will find it in profusion here. There are fine walks right from the door and the area is also well known for its fishing opportunities.
