Overview

Now, however, it is an altogether more peaceful location, with birdsong and a babbling burn replacing the war cries of clansmen. Approached along the banks of the River Garry, Killiecrankie Lodge is one of four attractive wood cabins situated beside a working farm, offering a cosy haven for couples and families alike.

From the decking area to the rear and the enclosed garden there are spectacular views of Ben Vrackie and the other surrounding hills. The picturesque stream in the garden affords hours of paddling fun for children (fairly steep slope down, so care required with really little ones).

As you would expect in such a cabin, pine is very much the theme both inside and out and its golden glow gives the interior a very warm and welcoming atmosphere. The door opens straight into the bright and spacious L-shaped open-plan living area, which has been carefully and most attractively furnished with comfortable seating that just begs you to come and relax. By the back wall of this area is the dining table, with the well-equipped kitchen in the bay just round the corner. The high, raftered ceiling and many windows make this a very light and pleasant place to spend time.

All on one level there are two bedrooms, a double and a twin. Both bedrooms and the shower room are off the main living area. The stylish double room is well furnished and cosy with a lovely ornate bedframe. The twin room, while more compact, is equally attractively presented with a large window that makes it light and bright. The wet-room style shower room is just what is needed to sluice your exertions after a day’s walking or cycling in the hills.

Map & Local

This really is a special little pocket of Perthshire where you are in the very heart of Scotland. Short, scenic drives take you to any number of beautiful attractions.

Lochs Tay (water sports centre, replica Iron Age Crannog in the loch), Tummel (a photographers' paradise) and Rannoch, as well as five golf courses, are all within half an hour of the lodge.

Salmon and trout fishing can be had in the nearby Garry and Tay rivers, among many others. Walkers or mountain bikers will love adventurous trips to the Cairngorms, Royal Deeside or more gentle strolls through 'Big Tree Country' in nearby Dunkeld and Aberfeldy.

Easy access to the A9 trunk road make this a great base for touring, whether to the popular ski and summer resort of Aviemore (48 miles), Inverness (78 miles), Perth (33 miles) or, by branching off at Dalwhinnie, heading over to the spectacular north west coast.

Pitlochry has a famous year-round Festival Theatre, fish ladder, golf course and Scotland's smallest distillery, Edradour, while Blair Atholl (4 miles), dominated by the fairytale Blair Castle, offers shops, the award-winning 'Watermill' bakery, a golf course, a small spa and swimming pool and, in August, hosts the International Blair Atholl Horse Trials.
