What was once an old stable building has been transformed into a light and bright retreat with its original stable door and the main living accommodation set out upstairs.
As it is open plan everything is easily to hand with seating to relax in around the cosy wood-burning stove at one end of the room and an inviting dining and kitchen area at the other end with a central staircase that can be gated off for safety.
A steep staircase leads down to where the bedrooms and bathrooms are laid out downstairs. There is an attractive double bedroom with a modern en suite shower room and a spacious twin room that makes use of a family bathroom.
Outside the veranda is a delightful place to sit and relax, enjoy a quiet drink or read a good book and as it is covered it can be enjoyed whatever the weather. Secure storage for bikes is available if you fancy exploring on two wheels and there is also off road parking for up to 2 cars just in front of the bothy.
A small supermarket and village shop are both in walking distance and there is also a choice of different eateries to try for meals out. The beautiful River Tay just a short walk away is a popular spot for watersports, fishing for salmon, trout or coarse and pretty walks along the riverside where there is a stretch of sandy beach.
An interesting place to visit within the village is Stanley Mills, a cotton mill that was built back in 1786 and harnessed the power of the river to produce cotton and other textiles before the days of electricity. It now houses an interesting exhibition that gives an insight into the history of the mill and the people that used to work there.
Children will love the nearby Active Kids Adventure Park (1 mile) that has lots of indoor and outdoor activities and animals to see including donkeys, goats, chickens, sheep and highland cattle.
The Wildlife Reserve at Loch of the Lowes (10 miles) near Dunkeld is mainly known for the pair of ospreys (known as Lassie and Laddie) that return each year to breed. A hide allows for viewing of the nest and there is even a close up live CCTV feed that allows visitors to keep an eye on their progress from home.
A day trip into Perth (7 miles) is an absolute must as there is so much to see and do with plenty of shops, pubs and restaurants and a supermarket that is open 24 hours a day. The Perth Museum and Art Gallery is the place to head for some culture or the Black Watch Museum that explains all about the history of Scotland’s oldest Highland military regiment.
To see the city from a really unique perspective take a boat trip out on the River Tay. One of the trips allows for a stop off at the Willowgate Activity Centre where there is canoeing/kayaking, paddle boarding, archery and even bush craft lessons to try.
