Red Kite Lodge is a log cabin with expansive views out across the surrounding fields, set in the little hamlet of Ardeonaig close to the shore of Loch Tay and just 8 miles from Killin at the head of the loch.

Inside, everything is easily to hand in the sitting room/dining room/kitchen that is a great place to socialise all together whilst the nominated chef cooks up a storm. Glass doors lead out to a pretty patio area where seating has been placed looking out towards the lovely mountain landscape and the dining area is just alongside so that the views can be appreciated during meals.
The two attractive bedrooms, a double bedroom and a neat twin room, are both laid out on the same level along with a contemporary shower room and a porch with plenty of storage space.
Red Kite sits in ‘big tree country’ and that is evident in the mature trees that can be found in the garden surrounding the lodge. Parking is provided for guests just by the door and, once the gate is shut the garden is enclosed. The lodge sits alongside its sister property Red Squirrel Lodge and both lodges can be booked together for larger parties.
Within the 20 acre estate are a shared sports field and shared firepit that is a superb place to spend the evening around a bonfire toasting some marshmallows. There is also private access down to the shore of Loch Tay just over a mile away.
Groceries can be picked up in Killin (8 miles) which is known for the impressive Falls of Dochart that can be viewed from the bridge there. Following the Killin Heritage Trail is an interesting way of exploring the village and its many historical points of interest.
The Rob Roy Way long distance walking route passes close by, one of Scotland’s Great Trails that stretches the 80 miles from Drymen near Stirling all the way across to Pitlochry. The route has amazing scenery to admire along the way and the chance to walk in the footsteps of the notorious Rob Roy McGregor.
Highland Safaris (15 miles) run boat trips out on Loch Tay and also offer mountain, forest and biking safaris with experienced local guides. Their Red Deer Centre allows visitors to see these wonderful animals up close and even feed them.
Walkers and climbers will find themselves very well placed as there are 50 different munros to tackle within an hour’s drive of the lodge, including Ben Lawers which is the tenth highest munro.
Aberfeldy (16 miles) has various shops to wander around, a choice of pubs and eateries, a supermarket and The Birks Cinema that shows opera, theatre and ballet performances as well as films. Whisky enthusiasts will enjoy a tour around the Dewar’s Aberfeldy Distillery (16.5 miles) followed by a tasting in the cosy whisky lounge.
