Overview

Inside, guests can enjoy curling up on the huge, L-shaped sofa in the airy sitting room to watch a film in the inviting glow of the wood-burning stove in its feature stone fireplace. Large sliding doors perfectly frame the pretty view of the surrounding forest and open up onto the decked outdoor seating area. There is even a telescope set up so that the wonderful dark skies can be taken advantage of for stargazing.

The huge dining table sits alongside a spacious, partly open plan kitchen with a Belfast sink and additional breakfast bar seating, making it a great social space to linger over meals together. Handy storage for coats and boots can be found in the utility room that leads through to a sleek shower room with a large walk-in shower. This can also be accessed by the beautifully presented master double bedroom with its luxurious king-size bed.

A central hallway stretches the whole length of the lodge with the other bedrooms lying off it. There are two attractive double bedrooms and a twin room that make use of a family bathroom that has a bath with a shower over it.

Parking is right by the door and the extensive, rough garden grounds lead down to a burn (care to be taken with children). The lodge is set along a 500-metre stretch of private drive that is in good condition.

Map & Local

For a small village Kirkmichael (1 mile) is well catered for with an excellent shop and two different eateries to choose from. The Kirkmichael Hotel serves makes use of fresh local ingredients or there is the Strathardle Inn on the edge of the village to try for a drink or a meal (with a takeaway option for those wishing to return to the comfort of the lodge).

Walkers have easy access to the well-known Cateran Trail, a circular walking route that runs through Kirkmichael and can be joined at any point. It is fully waymarked with some of the markers carved with depictions of the Cateran cattle thieves who frequented the route back in the Middle Ages. The circular walk up nearby Ben Vrackie (17 miles) offers wonderful views along the way and only takes roughly 3.5 hours.

Pitlochry (15 miles) is famous for its fish ladder that attracts visitors from all over to see the salmon negotiating their way up and over the dam. The town has an excellent tartan shop for authentic Scottish attire and some traditional souvenirs to take home. Kayaks, paddleboards, pedaloes and boats can be hired to take out on Loch Faskally and there are bikes and e-bikes available for those who prefer dry land.

Golfers will find themselves spoilt for choice with 7 different courses to try out within easy driving distance including the lovely 18 hole course in Pitlochry and the three excellent courses at Blairgowrie (13.5 miles).

Heading north, there are a huge range of outdoor activities on offer within the Cairngorms National Park (8 miles) just a short drive away. The well-known Glenshee Ski Resort has runs to suit all ages and abilities as well as an impressive system of ski lifts that make light work of the mountain ascents.

It is only an hour’s drive into the city of Perth (30 miles) for a day trip spent shopping or sightseeing. The impressive, 12th century Scone Palace on the outskirts of Perth is a delight to tour around with knowledgeable guides that explain its fascinating history and over 100 acres of grounds that just beg to be explored.
