A Coastal Retreat

Banff is set right on the Aberdeenshire coastline with a wonderful stretch of sandy beach that just begs to be explored and is particularly popular with surfers and other watersport enthusiasts. The Museum of Banff offers an insight into the town’s rich history with artefacts that go all the way back to the Celtic period.

The pretty harbour is still in use with plenty of boats bobbing away and seafood can be bought directly from the fishing boats – it doesn’t get much fresher than that!

    Also within the town is the historic Duff House, an elegant Georgian estate house that was originally designed for the Earl of Fife and is now open to the public. The house serves as an outpost of the National Galleries of Scotland so there are lots of interesting paintings on display throughout and the gardens are beautiful to have a wander around. Duff House sits within the 18 hole Duff House Royal Golf Course that welcomes visitors to enjoy a challenging round on a historic parkland course that dates back to 1910.

    Macduff, separated from Banff by the River Deveron, is home to a Marine Aquarium that houses hundreds of different sea creatures. The various exhibits are fascinating for children and adults alike and there are also informative daily talks and feeding shows.
