Ben Rinnes Lodge is a charming, detached wooden lodge set alongside its four neighbours in a remote, rural spot near Glenlivet (5.5 miles) in picturesque Speyside.

The lodge sits up a rough forest track for the last 500 metres or so and on arrival you can’t help but admire the pretty surroundings. Inside, a hallway leads through to the open plan sitting/dining room/kitchen that is kept cosy by an electric flame-effect stove and has been decorated in soothing heather hues throughout. French doors lead from the cosy seating area out onto a deck where there is a picnic table for enjoying al fresco meals.
The attractive double bedroom (king-size) has its own en suite shower room and the neat twin bedroom makes use of a further modern shower room that has a small sauna, with room for two, accessed off it - perfect for relaxing after days spent out exploring.
There is parking on the track at the end of the lodge that backs onto woodland and looks out over the open grassed garden to meadow fields, forest and the Ladder hills beyond.
Nearby Tomintoul and Glenlivet have been awarded Gold Tier status by the International Dark-Sky Association so the skies all around are a great place for star gazing and perhaps even spotting the amazing Aurora Borealis (or Northern Lights) that are quite a spectacle!
Just 5 minutes’ drive away is The Croft Inn (2.5 miles) pub and restaurant that is a good pit stop for a drink or a welcome break from cooking.
This is the heart of whisky country with the famous Glenlivet Distillery (5.5 miles) being the first port of call on the whisky trail. Various tours and tastings are available and there is an exhibition that details the history of the famous single malt and a gift shop with whisky and related gifts on offer.
Dufftown (8.5 miles) is the nearest place to stock up on supermarket supplies and is also home to an excellent whisky shop. The little Dufftown Whisky Museum explains the whisky making process over the years and even tells tales of the old-time whisky smugglers.
Just outside Dufftown are the ruins of Balvenie Castle that date right back to the 1200s. They are still fairly intact and are interesting to explore and picture in their former glory as the seat of the Earls of Buchan. There are also more distilleries to visit with the Glenfiddich, Mortlach and Balvenie distilleries all nearby.
A lovely old heritage railway line runs from Dufftown to Keith (Apr to Sept) with wonderful scenery and plenty of wildlife to take in along the way and a ‘driver experience’ at the Dufftown station that allows you to have a short go for yourself.
There are two graded mountain bike trails at the BikeGlenlivet centre (12 miles) and there is bike hire and a café on site. The blue trail is suitable for most ages and abilities and the red trail is a bit more of a challenge for experienced riders with gorgeous views to admire on both routes.
For a day at the beach, the wonderful stretch of sand on the shore of Loch Morlich is just over an hour’s drive away for a relaxing walk or trying out sailing, windsurfing, canoeing/kayaking or paddle boarding.

Bed linen and towels are INCLUDED. The first £35 of electricity is INCLUDED with any additional usage payable at the end of your stay. Heating is by electric panel heaters (first £35 INCLUDED with any additional payable at the end of your stay) and electric log effect stove. WiFi is INCLUDED (subject to a fair usage policy). Water is from a private source which is UV filtered and regularly tested; however (as is typical in many parts of Scotland) it can become discoloured, particularly after heavy rainfall. Guests may therefore prefer to bring bottled water to drink. A maximum of two dogs is welcome at an additional charge (1 large, 2 medium, 2 small). If you wish to bring any other pets please contact us and we will see what we can do. No smoking.
