Lonach and Forbestown Lodges are two excellent and identical larch lodges situated in an attractive woodland setting above a small pond in the heart of rural Donside.

Situated some 18 miles from Ballater and 16 miles from Tomintoul, Lonach Lodge is well-equipped, spacious, comfortable and in every way superior to your run-of-the-mill log cabin. Indeed the pine-lining downstairs is about the only feature inside that reminds you that this is a lodge rather than a traditional cottage.
The L-shaped living area is very spacious with the well-equipped kitchen area at one end. The generous dining area comes next, with the sitting area stretching right across the front of the Lodge with patio doors out to the lovely decking area (with furniture) above the pond. The utility room provides laundry space, as well as useful additional storage and there is also a downstairs WC.
Upstairs are two bedrooms, a double and a twin, both of which are attractively decorated with plenty of space and splendid views of the surrounding hills and forests. The bedrooms share a light and bright shower room. As might be expected in a house of this shape, the ceilings are partially coombed, with the twin room and bathroom having the advantage of Velux windows from which to admire the views. With the two bedrooms and a bed settee in the sitting area, the lodge can accommodate up to six people.
Strathdon, between the Grampians and the Ladder Hills is a spectacular glen which offers many opportunities for those of an active disposition.
There are walks of all grades of difficulty, from low-level woodland strolls to some of the most challenging hill walks in the country. Mountain biking enthusiasts will enjoy the many tracks which run deep into the hills and in winter, the Lecht skiing area is right on the doorstep.
The Don is an excellent fishing river, which is well known for its brown trout. Those interested in wildlife will find this in rich abundance, with eagles, buzzards, osprey, deer, pine martens and red squirrels all likely to be on the viewing list. You will find plenty of details and information in the lodge.
For the less energetic, the area offers castles, stately homes and galleries. Craigievar, Leith Hall and Crathes are all worth a visit, as are Braemar and Balmoral. In the other direction you are well within driving distance of Grantown on Spey, Loch Ness and Inverness itself.

Bed linen and towels are INCLUDED. Electricity is INCLUDED. Heating is by electric panel heaters. Water is from a private source which is UV filtered and regularly tested; however (as is typical in many parts of Scotland) it can become discoloured, particularly after heavy rainfall. Guests may therefore prefer to bring bottled water to drink. WiFi is INCLUDED (subject to a fair usage policy). A maximum of 1 dog is welcome at an additional charge (1 large, 1 medium or 1 small).
