This charming, traditional, detached holiday home has the additional benefit of being very centrally situated for touring. Inside, the well-furnished and comfortable living area is open plan, with an oil-fired stove which runs most of the heating, while from the well-equipped separate galley kitchen there are lovely views of the surrounding hills.
Upstairs are two en suite double bedrooms and a large landing which has been made into an attractive study area with desk, seating and bookshelf.
From here, an open-tread metal staircase leads to a further attic room which (because of height restrictions and the size of the beds) would be suitable for children between 4 and 10 years old, who could manage the stairs safely and who would certainly enjoy this lofty retreat.
The cottage stands in 1.5 acres of well-maintained garden grounds, shared with the owners' house which is its only neighbour. This affords both properties plenty of space. The cottage is not overlooked and has a delightful suntrap terrace to the front, ideal for warm lazy days reading or enjoying an evening drink.
Once comfortably settled here, you certainly don't have to look far for things to do, for the National Trust of Scotland's Leith Hall property, with its elegant house and lovely gardens is within just a few minutes' walk.
In fact the area really has more than its fair share of castles and stately homes that are all well worth a visit - Huntly Castle (7 miles), Craigievar Castle (15 miles), Fyvie Castle (21 miles), Haddo House (24 miles) and Pitmedden Gardens (24 miles), to name but some. Indeed the cottage seems to be within 25 miles of an awful lot!
If you fancy a day on the sunny Moray coast, the picturesque wee fishing village of Portsoy is 25 miles away, or in the other direction, you can be on beautiful Royal Deeside at Aboyne in 25 miles. Braemar is a little further at 45 miles, with Tomintoul, the highest village in Scotland, 39 miles away.
Lovers of Scotland's national drink will find that they are within easy distance of the Whisky Trail, with the Glenfiddich and Balvenie distilleries at Dufftown (14 miles) offering tours and tastings.
For some heavy duty hill walking, the Cairngorms can be reached in an hour or so and the local mountain, Bennachie (pronounced Benn -a- chee), is just a few miles down the road. There is good fishing on the local rivers, notably the Deveron and Bogie and in winter skiers will find they are only 32 miles from the Lecht ski centre. Huntly has the country's only year-round Nordic Ski Centre as well as a golf course, swimming pool, mountain biking and pony trekking, Of course, the 'Granite City' of Aberdeen is only 34 miles away.
