Alvie Cottage is the ideal little country getaway set in the Cairngorms National Park near Aviemore (3 miles), in a great location for trying the range of activities on offer within the park.

The open plan living area has everything conveniently to hand with a wood-burning stove to gather around and a glass door that keeps the whole place very light and bright which leads out to the garden and a raised deck area. The modern kitchen area to one end of the room is equipped with everything you need to cook up a storm and the handy dining area is just alongside.
There is also a bathroom with a bath and shower over on this level and a double bedroom dressed in soothing tones and a neat and cosy single room upstairs.
A grassed garden wraps around the cottage with a parking area just to the side. A railway line runs behind the house but it is well fenced off and obscured by trees, with several waymarked walking routes nearby.
There is a handy little shop at the holiday park in easy walking distance, just half a mile away. It is also has fishing permits on offer for fishing on the magnificent River Spey or in nearby Loch Alvie or Loch Insh.
Aviemore (3 miles) is a very well catered for town with a good range of shops, pubs, restaurants and a supermarket, as well as a golf course, swimming pool and riding stables. From the train station in Aviemore you can be in the city of Inverness in just over half an hour.
Loch Insh (4 miles) is the place for watersports with 14 acres of woodland to explore and archery, canoeing/kayaking, paddle boarding, rowing and windsurfing. There is also a dry ski slope where you can practise your skiing or snowboarding skills before giving the well known Cairngorm Mountain Resort (12 miles) a go. Even if you are not a skier, a trip on the funicular railway there is quite an experience. It ascends up over 450 metres to the top station where the restaurant has some gorgeous panoramic views of the resort.
The Insh Marshes RSPB reserve (6.5 miles) is home to hundreds of wading birds including curlews, lapwings and whooper swans. Trails lead around the reserve and lots of dragonflies and butterflies can be spotted along the way, as well as the many different birds.
Mountain bikers will want to head to the Laggan Wolftrax mountain biking trails (21 miles). It is said that you can ‘learn to fly’ on these trails with their technical climbs and sizeable drop offs. The centre has something to suit everyone however with 20 miles of green, red, black and orange graded trails to choose from and wonderful views of the Monadhliath hills to admire as you ride.
It is just over an hour’s drive north to the lovely long stretch of sandy beach at Culbin Sands at Nairn (35 miles). The Hill 99 walking route leads round Culbin Forest with a wooden tower that has been erected for walkers to climb for an impressive view out across the forest to the sand dunes and sea beyond.

Heating is by electric panel heaters and night storage heaters (first £10 INCLUDED with any additional payable at the end of your stay) and wood burning stove (starter pack of logs and coal INCLUDED). WiFi is INCLUDED (subject to a fair usage policy). A maximum of 2 dogs is welcome at an additional charge (1 large, 1 medium, 2 small).
