This Victorian manse dates all the way back to the 1870s and its fine entrance hall welcomes guests and sets the tone of what is to come in the rest of the house. The colourful drawing room is kept nice and cosy by its open fire and the formal dining room is a rather grand place to gather for evening meals.
The kitchen has been kitted out with a double oven and six ring stove to make cooking for larger parties easier with a central island that provides useful extra space for whipping up some culinary delights. In the WC are drying racks that are great for wet coats, boots, etc.
There is a handy en suite double bedroom downstairs and up the winding staircase are the five other bedrooms - two double rooms, two twin and a single room all of which have their own en suite bath or shower room facilities.
Feith Mhor means ‘great stillness’ and its setting certainly conveys that with well-maintained gardens filled with mature shrubs and trees that provide shelter, seating areas to enjoy the peace from and a built-in BBQ for al fresco dining. A fairly steep track leads downhill from the road and there is plenty of parking, outdoors kennels that are available to use on request and a covered secure storage area for keeping bikes, etc.
Views out over open fields to pretty heather and pine clad hills can be admired and there are good walks straight from the door. Wildlife can be spotted all around with roe deer, red grouse and arctic hares to look out for as well as golden eagles and the unusual sound of deer rutting in the autumn months.
The nearest village Carrbridge (1.5 miles) is well catered for as it has a grocery shop, a coffee shop, a couple of interesting gift shops and a choice of eateries to choose from, as well as a golf course and petrol station.
Children and adults alike will love the Landmark Forest Adventure Park within the village where outdoor activities including a rollercoaster, water slides and a thrilling treetop adventure course can be tried out.
Bird watchers will want to head to the RSPB reserve at Loch Garten (9 miles) that plays host to breeding ospreys every year. Aviemore (8.5 miles) is known as a snowsports hub but is also one of the starting points for special trips on the Strathspey Steam Railway. Watersports are available in season from the lovely sandy beach at Loch Morlich (14.5 miles) or at Loch Insh (16 miles) where there is an excellent wildlife boat trip.
This is very much whisky country and there are several distilleries to visit in easy reach including the Tomatin Distillery (11 miles), the Balmenach Distillery (14 miles), the Tomintoul Glenlivet Distillery (26 miles) or, if ale is your preferred tipple, then a tour of the Cairngorm Brewery (8 miles) is definitely in order.
The ‘capital of the highlands’ Inverness is just a 40 minute drive away or the train service from Carrbridge runs into the city regularly throughout the day if you prefer to leave the car behind.
