Set behind, but completely separate from the Big House, it is a most deceptive building on two levels, which has been carefully renovated and expensively furnished, with an oblique but unimpeded view of the loch only a few hundred yards away.

The style of the house and the way it is presented leave no doubt that you are in Highland Scotland here. It is very much in the shooting lodge mode, just far more luxurious and more refined than such traditional dwellings are apt to be!

The sitting room is elegant and refined, kept cosy by a wood-burning stove. The charming dining kitchen is spacious and well-equipped, with plenty of space for people to eat without the cook having to miss out on all the fun! Also on this level is a double bedroom that has its own en suite shower room.

Open tread stairs then lead down to the downstairs sitting area with its exposed stone wall, wood-burning stove and beamed ceiling that perfectly captures the traditional ambience. There is also a utility room, a WC, and a twin bedroom with ensuite shower room.

A fascinating, stone-walled tunnel leads from outside the lower area under the driveway to the lawn and river - well, we did say it was unique! Guests have access to the wide lawns and grounds and can sit out quite privately behind the cottage.

Map & Local

The Estate offers fishing in season and the area teems with wildlife.

Walking, cycling, riding and skiing (35 miles at Aonach Mor near Fort William) are other popular pastimes, while the Estate's central situation makes it an ideal base for touring as far afield as Skye and Torridon.

The wee village of Invermoriston, just down the road, has a hotel and shop, while Drumnadrochit (known locally simply as Drum) has more and also a pony trekking centre. From there, guests can enjoy boat trips on the loch, which is one of Scotland’s best known attractions, perhaps keeping an eye out for the elusive ‘monster’.

Invermoriston is in the Great Glen, the immense geological fault line which runs across Scotland from Inverness to Fort William and along which a series of lochs are connected by Thomas Telford’s amazing Caledonian Canal. The Great Glen way runs its length and offers wonderful walking, while the Great Glen Cycleway does the same for bikers.

On the shores of Loch Ness to the north is the picturesque ruin of Castle Urquhart, while to the south is the equally picturesque village of Fort Augustus (6 miles, with all facilities and a golf course), where visitors can sit or stroll along the towpath, watching as boats pass through a spectacular series of locks in the middle of the village.
