The house dates all the way back to 1850 and has been lovingly modernised to create a welcoming retreat that is presented beautifully throughout with a fitting Highland theme. The sitting room is warm and inviting with a wood-burning stove set into its impressive exposed stone wall and comfy seating to curl up on. There is even a little study area and the room is flooded with light from the French doors that lead to a sunny conservatory where you can relax and read a book.
The kitchen is bright and homely with a door that leads out to the garden and its adjoining dining room is the heart of the house with a wood-burning stove that keeps it toasty and makes it just the place to linger over hearty breakfasts or relaxed evening meals.
Upstairs are the two bedrooms, a light and airy double bedroom with plenty of storage and a family room with a double bed and single bed. Both bedrooms share a modern shower room in between them that has a wonderful big walk-in shower.
Next door is The Byre, a very cosy and inviting little hideaway that is separate from the main house and has its own entrance, making it perfect for a couple who want a bit of their own space whilst holidaying with a larger group. It has its own sitting room with a TV and handy coffee machine and mini-fridge for making hot drinks. Steps lead up to an attractive double bedroom with a king-size bed and a contemporary en suite shower room with large walk-in shower, ‘his and hers’ sinks and the added luxury of underfloor heating.
Outside there is plenty of parking in the gravelled driveway right by the door. The pretty enclosed gardens are mainly grassed and have been beautifully landscaped with lots of trees, shrubs and plants to enjoy. The little decked area by the summer house is a lovely spot to sit and admire the garden and there is a small pond so care should be taken, particularly with children.
It is just a mile to Drumnadrochit (shop, pub, restaurants) and there is a pavement all the way along the road if you fancy visiting on foot.
The village has two loch ness monster museums – the Loch Ness Centre and Exhibition with self-guided audio tours that take you around the exhibits and Nessieland (geared more towards children) where you can get your photo taken with sculptures of the legend itself.
The iconic Urquhart Castle is only 3 miles away and draws in visitors from all over the country to explore its ruins and experience the amazing views it affords out across Loch Ness.
Fishing trips run out onto the loch and boat trips on the ‘Nessie Hunter’ can be arranged from Drumnadrochit. Tours last around an hour and the boat is equipped with sonar and underwater cameras just in case of a sighting. The tour also goes past Urquhart Castle where you can photograph it from the very best vantage point on the water.
The house is well positioned for exploring the surrounding area with the city of Inverness just 16 miles away, where a well-connected train station allows you to go even further afield. The Isle of Skye is also easily reachable for a day trip.
