Inverness is known as the capital of the Highlands and Horseshoe Cottage has a perfectly capital position high on a hill with the panorama of the city, the Kessock Bridge and the Black Isle beyond. At New Year it provides a perfect view of the city's firework display!

While the city is just a few minutes' drive and the airport no more than 20 minutes away, its situation is one of restful peace surrounded by quietly grazing sheep and visiting deer. It has a small fenced garden and parking alongside. The house was once a 100-year-old steading and was used as a tractor shed. However, it has now been the subject of an impressive conversion and provides high specification, most comfortable holiday accommodation.
The charming sitting room has views across the fields to the surrounding hills from its large windows that also let in plenty of light. It is beautifully furnished and decorated in neutral, restful tones. A doorway leads through to the dining area of the excellent, well-equipped kitchen, which has all the labour-saving appliances that make your holiday as relaxed as possible. There is also a handy WC on this level, as well as cosy underfloor heating.
Upstairs there are two bedrooms, a double and a twin. The double room has a king-size bed and handy fitted wardrobes. There are also reading spotlights, so you will have no problem finishing your novel before you drift off to sleep. The twin bedroom, which can be converted to a double, has a cute little shelf above the bed with some cuddly friends for any young children in the party. The bathroom has a combined bath and shower, so all tastes are catered for when it comes to bathing.
Inverness has completely reinvented itself in the last few years and is now a very vibrant and exciting city, with top-class restaurants, theatres, concert venues and sporting facilities and of course, its surroundings are to die for.
The cottage is just off the road-less-travelled which leads down the quiet east shore of Loch Ness, so you can do a spot of 'monster watching' if you wish. You can get across to the west side without having to go into the city and from there the wonderful glens of Affric and Cannich make for wonderful walking, or wildlife spotting - keep a look out for golden eagles and the newly reintroduced red kites.
To the north, there is the pretty Black Isle to explore where you can go to Chanonry Point and watch the dolphins, though there are often some to be seen by the Kessock Bridge itself. Or you can go onwards up to John O' Groats. You can be in Skye in less than two hours, or head along Strath Braan and explore the Applecross peninsula and other delights of the beautiful west coast.
To the east of the city you may wish to strike out along the Moray coast, where there are excellent beaches. Visit the pretty villages of Findhorn and Fort George, while the site of the battlefield at Culloden is a must-see.
